6.5x47 lapua. rl-17 and 140 a maxes.

Did a ladder test today. 34 through 38 grains. Brand new brass. Increments of .4. Noticed little circles on base of brass at 36 but wasn't getting them at 38? Not sure what my next step is. Got a nice cluster in the 37 range. No idea what velocities r. I can remember another guy on here getting good velocities with 123 grainers and only 35 grains of RL 15. I too get descent velocity with only 35.2 grains of RL 15 and 123s. Wonder if same thing is going to apply to these 140s which wouldn't be a bad thing. By looking at charts seems like 140s buck the wind much better than 123s at 1000 yards. Any advice? Should I search for node higher?

I guess back to the drawing board. I'm still curious why I have to use so much less powder on the 123s. Another gent in here posted a while back and had same thing. 2 or 3 grains under everyone else but still getting good velocities. ?????? Hmmmm.

By the way, what was Ur come up from 100 to 1000 with 139s. Do u recommend the 139s for 1000 over the 123s.

About 26 MOA from 100 with the 139's.

I would recommend the 139's over the 123's for 1000 yards.
However, once the 136 gr. Scenar L's are available, I think those are going to the be the ticket.

I've just been loading some 140 A-Max's in my 260 Rem this evening. One thing to keep in mind is there may be quite a variation in how individual rifles have been throated. I am pondering pushing the throat out .100 inch next time round in my 260 Rem. My loaded rounds tonight measure just under 2.9 inches, but I might go up to 3.0 inches for the next re-barrel.
Regards JCS

I use a load of 38.0grs. of RL-15 with 123Smk's seated 7-8K into the lands ignited by CCI 450 primers. My velocity is 2975 with 9-12 f.p.s. E.S.'s... I really am waiting for the 136L's to come out. I would bet that I can get a "comfortable" 2900 (or so) F.P.S. With those velocities and the "expected" B.C.'s hovering around .600 it ought to be THEE TICKET for 600 yard F-Open and nothing to sneeze at approaching 1000yards!

Good advice guys. Thanks. I'm going to do another ladder I. Increments of .3 from 37 up close to 40 and see what happens. I had one 4 shot cluster of .8 at 265 yards. I'm thinking this could be good.

Wow 26 MOA! That's fast.

41.1 of RL17 for mine with a 140grn Berger HYBRID lit with a FED205 = 1hole! 41.6 and 42.1 was descent as well with 42.1 just BARELY showing a hint of pressure on the back of case.........WORK UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

good lord that a lot of powder. I'm working on it right now and necking down some rounds for my 6x47 lapua that is on its way. well the barrel any way.

1 holed 3 shots at 100. Shot 939 last week in near thunderstorm conditions. Vertical was 2 inches or so. Up 22 minutes from 2.2 inches high at 100. Couldn't be happier. Round 2868 fps. Is this what u guys r getting?
