6.5x47 Lapua in a repeater?

Hello All,

New here. Very Impressive Site.


....the 6.5x47Lapua. I've only learnt of this calibre very recently and am intrigued to say the least! [Just spent 30 minutes reading through every search result on '6.5x47']

....I've been trying to spec a rifle suitable,light enough) for Highland stalking, but capable of the odd go at F-Class.

The stalking requirement has led me to want a 20-22" light varmint 5C or R barrel. I was going to go 308, but the 6.5x47 Lapua looks like might be a better compromise calibre....perhaps especially with the reduced barrel length,any thoughts?).


My question,finally!) have any of you with dummy 6.5x47Lapua rounds tried cycling them in a 308 action,from an un-modified 308 magazine?)?

Since the 6.5x47 is nearly identical in overall dimensions to the 6XC, I don't think there would be any problems cycling the round in a Rem short action. Plenty of guys are doing that successfully with the 6XC. Moreover, 22-250s cycle fine in Rem actions, and again, the case is very similar. With the longest 6.5mm bullets, however, you may have magazine length restrictions. I think we will find though that the 6.5x47 performs best with 108-125gr bullets, rather than the 140gr class VLDs.
