6.5x47 L ideal chamber throat

I plan on shooting 140 Berger hybrids and feeding from an aics or aw magizine. The throating reccamendations I have seen have been in the 0.160" range. This appears to only leave approximately 0.150" of bullet shank in the brass. Given some allowance to chase the lands does this leave enough shank to keep moderate tension for handling and feeding?

If you don't have the gun in your hands, how do you know where the bullet is in the case in reference to your lands? It can even vary from barrel to barrel with the same reamer. It depends upon where the ogive of the bullet falls. Bullets that have a longer bearing usually need more freebore. If a barrel has a different bore diameter the length of freebore with the same reamer changes. Matt

Yes, .160 should work well for you with the 140 hybrids. Most of the bullet shank is in contact with the neck. I'm using .170 now and that is well below mag length with plenty of contact in the neck.

I prefer a FB around .120" for the 140 hyb. I have a .090",.118, and .164" reamers and over the years I have found I like the .118 better in every aspect for the 140hyb.
