6.5x47 L free bore

What free bore length are you guys running in your 6.5x47s for the 140 class bullets? I had krieger chamber my barrel so it will be at SAAMI specs. I was wondering if I should consider getting the throat reamed out a little once I get it in order to handle the 140 class bullets. I would like to shoot the 140 berger vld and maybe the new 142 nosler ablr if they ever hit the shelves, but at the least I want to be able to handle 130 vlds. Will a saami spec chamber be good enough for these bullets or should I consider reaming out the throat some?

A good freebore for 140 is around .165-.175. Mine is .169 and works great plenty of case capacity and plenty of bullet still in the neck. Of course if you are using a magazine you maybe to long

Umm...6.5 x 47 is not actually SAAMI cartridge as far as I know.

Am I correct?

So if I am correct, there is no such thing as a SAAMI Chamber or reamer.

Freebore would then be based on reamer design.

I'm not sure. All I know is when I spoke with krieger about chambering my barrel they said it would be done to saami specs.

Yes, I mainly shoot 139 gr. Lapua Scenars and the .175" freebore works very well.

Erik if I remember correctly, your 6x47 was .150" freebore- is that right?

I run a 0.130" for 130 grain Berger Hybrid bullets and a 0.160" for 140 grain Berger Hybrid bullets. There are several reamers out there between 0.160 and 0.170 that will work well with the 140 class bullets.

Freebore is the Morgana effect. According to the CIP drawing it is .165 and allows a tolerance of .010 This means that .165-.175; is a CIP dimension. The reamer manufacturer can make it according to the client's dimensions or, if not specified, it is made according to the approved size. (CIP or SAMMI) That's why we can talk about freebore different from standardization; only in a "wildcat". A gunsmith, due to the results obtained with a barrel, can order a special, customized reamer (not cheap at all)

.165 to .175 will work fine for everything except the ELD-M. If you want to keep the heel out of the neck/shoulder junction you will need twice that.
