6.5x47 Bullet Choice

I'm new to this cartridge. Rifle will be completed soon. Requesting some guidance in choice between Berger's 130 AR Hybrid, 130 VLD and 140 Hybrid. Shooting prone with 32" barrel and plan to use VV 150. Is there a consensus preference?

Berger 130 Hunting VLD and H4350 43gr. Chrono's 3000fps from a 27" Barrel! I've tried nearly all the popular 6.5 choices and the 130 has been the best for me!

True, typically with the mid size 6.5s the 130s contain enough BC and velocity to make a 140 not a huge benefit without a longer barrel. I see you have a 32" barrel; at this point it'll be whichever bullet your barrel likes best. I would guess you can drive the 140vld to the higher nodes unachievable by those if us with 26 and under.

Don't be scared to try the scenars be it 123's , 136's or 139's.

Sometimes when you force yourself to have no options that's all your left with lol

I have shot 130VLDs, 130ARH, 136 Scenar Ls, 140BH and 142SMKs out of my 28" 8.5 twist 5R and my 26" 4 groove 8 twist. H4350 and 142SMKs have worked well for me. The 136 Scenar L looked good but I can't get a good BC on them and looking at the bullet it screams "Point me!" and I'm not set up for that. On top of that, they seem to have doubled in price. The 140BH and 142 shot identical to 1k.

For the money I couldn't justify anything over a 142. Groups were the same. ES/SD about identical with Varget and H4350.

I have some 123s on the shelf collecting dust. Maybe I'll build anew 18" hunter

My go to bullet for all 6.5s is the Berger 130 hunting VLD.

130s or 140s are good. Don't let anyone tell you that the 47 cant push the 140s or that its underpowered for them.

What are you going to use it for?
600-1000 yds F class the 140 Berger Hybrid is the most popular by far I've seen. 300-600 you can go lighter. I switched to 120 Scenar L for 300 yds and its scary accurate and consistent. Hunting I don't know.

If you want to eliminate the need to sort bullets try EPS 136 gr. I have found no other brand to have the consistency of the EPS.

First bullet I tried in my light weight 6.5x47 was the Berger 140s. It like them so well I haven't tried anything else. 2780 out of a 24in barrel with Varget. Maybe I'll try some of those EPS pills next.

Those FPS bullets sound nice, how is the BC on them compared to 140 hybrids?

I wouldmy bother with the AR Hybrid unless you are needing to keep them magazine length. The VLD hunting or target seem to be much easier to find and ballistics are a tiny bit better

Thanks for the ideas. Just to clarify, I shoot prone (i.e. sling) at 600 and 1000 yds. If not Palma, I have used my 6BR. I had a 284 Shehane until last week, but hated it as it pushed me all over the firing line. If I was a foot taller and weighed another 100 lbs, the 284 would probably be fine. So, essentially trading it for a new built 6.5 for better recoil. All my barrels are 32" finished because I shoot irons and I want the same sight radius on the rifles.

Additionally, I always point the bullets. I don't care to "jam" bullets in case there is a call to extract a live cartridge during a match. Don't want powder everywhere if bullet lodges in the lands. I am not well equipped to do much testing which means I have put all my practice time into working on my position and waiting to get a consistent wind condition. I have typically found one bullet and one powder load and never changed anything. I'm afraid I would make too many mistakes if I started to vary anything.

The 105 Hybrid was an easy choice for the 6BR and the 180 Hybrid was the clear choice for the 284. Guess I was hoping for a clear consensus for the 6.5, but there seems to be many options. In an ideal world, someone would just tell me what to do and I would follow. Looks instead like I have to do some work. Yuk.

I have shot both the 140 Hunting VLD and the Hybrid. One groups as well as the other. That is to say quite well.
