6.5x47 Build

Im having a Rem 700 rebarreled with an 8 twist #17 lv krieger in 6.5x47 bedded in a HS stock, Collier Rifles in Milan,GA is doing the work for me. Im torn on the barrel length and wanted yall's input, this gun will be used to shoot paper out to 400 yards and deer and other small game to about the same distance. I want a 22" but was worried about the velocitiy I could get out of it and considered going up to a 24" or 26". By the way I plan on shooting the 130gr Berger VLD and 129gr SST. Any input would be appreciated.

I would stick with 26. May not be nothing to but a friend of mine built a 22 inch gun and had fits with it. It now wears a 26 inch barrel

I am shooting 6.5x250 ack . for no other reason than to be different . Same fps as 6.5 x47 shot 130 vld for 600 yards benchrest and still do but have dropped down to 120 vld bergers .The barrel lenght is 25 "long also shoot deer with same cartridge 120 nosler balistic tip they work well . I started with 22" barrel for deer rifle settled on 24" . www.therifler.com

If your only shooting out to 400 yards I wouldn't be worrying about velocity. IMO 22-24" would be fine ;D

I would get the firing pin bushed as well and there are alot of good loads for this rifle, mine is a lazer with the 130 VLD's w/40.6 H4350, CCI450

cawt0123, I'm shooting a 6.5X47 Lapua and using it for deer. I can tell you that the 24" Kreiger barrel that I'm shooting gives me plenty of velocity and the deer drop like they were hit with lightning. I'm shooting Lapua Brass with 41.3Gr's of H-4350 behind a Berger 130Gr. Match Hunting bullet. That gives me a M.V. of 2801, with an ES of 12 and an SD of 5. It shoots right around and inch at 300yds. Very consistant. I'm using cci-450 primers. The rifle is a blueprinted 700 action with a Kiff Bolt pillar bedded into a Brown Precision, classic stock. I have also had excellant results with RL-15. Hope this helps. As with any load, work up slowly as all barrels are different.

Ditto's to what Chunkhunter said. I have 3 different barrels chambered in 6.5X47 Lapua, a 24", a 26" and a 28" on a 1000 yd. rifle The shorter barrels, I've been using for hunting. I wish that both of them were 24".

A 130 gr. Berger VLD on top of H4350 is really potent.

I have a 25" Broughton on mine. 2960fps with 130 Bergers and 40+ grains of H4350.

Im waiting on my 6.5x47 to be finished up here shortly. It wears a 22.5 inch barrel. It's going to be used in local tactical matches out to 1k. PM me some time in the near future and I'll let ya know how it worked.
