6.5X47 and Power Pro

KINDA-NEW-GUY

Proud Armenian from TEXAS
I've used varget and unobtainium (H4350) in a lot of my calibers, and had great results. So I tried PP2000MR in them as well, and had amazing results. Fantastic velocities, and very little pressure signs, even in very compressed loads, (just my experience)

So, I want to try it in my 6.5X47 and see what happens. I just need help deciding where to start. Any help is appreciated

I shoot a Remington tried and printed action, choate ultimate sniper stock, 31" kreiger 5R 1-8
It absolutely loves 39.5gr of H4350, with Berger hunting vld and 17 thou jam into the lands. About a semi ragged 5 shot group at 100. It also loves scenars, but the bergers were the ticket.

Thank you in advance for readin my never ending question, and wasting your time. Hope to hear from y'all soon

I thought it would be a good powder to try in my 6.5 x 47 with 130 Berger VLD's.. I went from 37.6 to 39.0. It would shoot 3 or 4 shots very well but with a flyer. I tried to get rid of the flyer and THOUGHT I did with 38.4grs and CCI BR-4 primers. I had NOT ran them over a chronograph at this point>>bad weather, threatening to rain etc... BUT I loaded up 25 with 38.4grs and with CCI BR-4's that seemed to do away with the flyers and waited for a good day. Well I got an overcast day, cold (for Texas) and only a very slight breeze. RESULTS: 3 out of the 5 groups produced a "small flyer" but a flyer nonetheless and terrible E.S.'s from a low of 2848 to a high of 2897! I don't know... I can tell you that it has ALWAYS been my experience that Ball Powders seen to be inconsistant at best. I really was hoping that with NEW powders and NEW technology etc.. that PowerPro 2000 would get ME past ball powders. But it has only ingrained me more into the concept of exclusively using extruded powders... Now, here is a thought... The advertizing from Alliant states that it is specially designed for heavy bullets in the .223 and .308. I thought that the 6.5 x 47 case was close enough to use PowerPro 2000... BUT at least in my rifle, it is a no go.. BUT maybe in that narrow range of calibers it might work very well...

My buddy has the same "flyer" issue with his 308 load, and PP2000. I've found that the more of it I stuff into a case, the better it works.
But I do understand the issue with that type of powders. Using H110 in my .300 AAC is kinda scary. I get crazy pressure signs from loads that are real light, and vise versa. That's the nature of the beast I suppose

So what charge do you suppose would be good charge of PP2000MR for a 140gr bullet in a 6.5x47?
Of course you won't be held responsible for my safety, I have my own brain, and have done plenty of dumb stuff in my day, so no worries. Just looking for a good ballpark. Or if someone doesn't mind firing up some computer program that would help me out a bit

Much appreciated

I would not hesitate to run up to 38.0grs and MAYBE a smidgen more, depending of course on pressure signs.. I really hope it works for you.. I would like to begin hearing some positive results from the new Alliant powders..

Sounds like a good load to me. If the rain doesn't get knarly tomorrow, I'll head to Pleasanton, and do some shooting at the ranch, and see if I can't figure out this power pro deal.

Thank you ShootDots, you are a gentleman and a scholar

Still haven't been out shooting yet. Sorry everyone.
But I got some loading done.
Questions or comments, or suggestions on my load work up? Please let me know, I'm up for learning something new the easy way every once in a while ;)
