I just bought some 130 vlds from JLK and was wondering whether you guys jump or jammed them and what powder did you have the best success with. I have a Panda with 30in 1-8 twist barrel. Thanks!

Perfect! Try H4350, 40.5 to 41.5. Jam them 0.020". An alternative is IMR 4007 but it burns faster so cut down to 38.5 +/-. Some use Varget but I think it is too fast. The 130 Bullet is about perfect.

I too have an F=Class Panda with a Brux 30" 1 in 8. It works great at 600 and I have used it successfully at 1000.

Would a faster powder be better suited to a shorter barrel? I am about to try some Varget in a 23" barrel.

I have had 4 / 6.5 x 47 barrels over the years. It has been my experience that with 130gr. projectiles that your particular barrel will either LOVE H4350 or RL-15, rarely both on the same barrel. Try the H4350 first, however, if that does not work to your satisfaction, try 37.0-38.0 grs. of RL-15. I have tried numerous powders over the years and the 2 that stand out head and shoulders above the rest are H4350 and RL-15. My 6.5 x 47 that I presently have shoots 130 Berger VLD's with 37.5grs of RL-15. I have shot a 1.25" group at 600 yards with that load. Now I know it won't do that ALL the time>>>but it does show what that round is capable of with RL-15. I had 2 other barrels that would NOT shoot anything BUT H4350. Then I had 1 that preferred VV N550, which is another excellent powder for that round. However, it has a great tendency to burn throats out in short order. I won't use that powder again!

Thanks for the information. I will try H4350 and RL15 because I have good supply. Any luck with Varget?

I tried it once or twice>>>>it is good but not in the same league as RL-15 or H4350.. These 2 powders have been proven over and over again by many, many shooters..

38.7 of RL-15 @.12 off my jam works great with 130's in mine!
I have a .125 FB though.

37.3 gr. Varget, 130 Berger VLD, jammed .005", and CCI 450. 2875 fps in a 28" long, 8.5" twist barrel.

I could never get the consistency with RL15 that I could with Varget, in two different 6.5x47's. I did the OCW test on both rifles and my best loads were 37.3 and 37.5 gr. behind a 130 Berger VLD jammed .010. Same load as flamethrower. Several very successful shooters told me the same. Hope this helps, YMMV.

Varget for me, 37.5 grains with a moly plated 130 VLD about .015 in the lands, gives me 2820 in a 23" Rock #3 and a McMillan Edge filled Classic.

One day I plunked 3 shots into 2 1/2" at 1K.......

The new RL16 might just be ideal with that 30" tube your running.
