6.5x284 twist

What gr bullets is a 8.5 twist for a 6.5x284 will it stabilize 130 to 142 gr bullets? Or is a 8 twist better for 142's.

8 is best for a 142. 8.5 or 9 twist is subject not to stabalize the 142 in hot weather. Larry

The million dollar question. My last barrel is a 8.5 twist, but I don't use the 142 SMK- I do use the 139 Lapuas, 130 Normas and 140 Bergers and it is apparently enough for these! I dunno, a lot of guys are shooting 8s and a lot are shooting 8 1/2s...

I'm sure there are shooters out there that have the answer already, but I just got two bbls. with the only differance being one is a 1-8 while the other is a 1-8 1/2. I'm going to have them chambered up at the same time with the same reamer in 6.5x284. I'll be shooting 140 JLK's and 139 Lapua Scenar's. Give me a month or so and I'll report back.
