6.5x284 140 Hybrid loads. Any great ones?

I have been using 54.5 grains of RL-22 with 142 Matchkings but am about to try some of the new 140 Hybrids. The bearing surface of the Hybrids is shorter, so I'm thinking that I would start around there, with the 140's sitting .015 off. The Matchkings have always shot very nice for me with the 54.5, just wanting to try the new Hybrids and see how they compare.

Any suggested loads?

Thanks,

These two photos were taken at 100 and 1,000 yards with the exact same load during the Berger testing this winter. No attempt was made to correct for windage or elevation at either yard line. The load data is on the 100 yd. target. The target marked #3 is on a standard 1,000 yd. target.
I hope this helps,
Lloyd

Knowing Lloyd and he is a NRA prone shooter and a Standard Target for him is 1MOA X ring ( 10") He may have even shot this out of a sling with NO rest.

Steve

I used to shoot R22 when I first started with the 6.5X284 back in 2003 or 2004. Since then I have come to use what I call my standard load of 4831SC 52gr to 53gr with Lapua or Norma Brass with .001 neck tension. This load has shot in every barrel I have owned. Hart, Rock Creek, Bartlein, two Broughtons. Bullets from Berger VLD's and JLK VLD's both 140gr. The 142gr Match King, and my latest loading with the 140BTLR Berger. Adjusting seating depth and powder charge some where between the above stated gives me a consistant performer for national Level competition.

Shoot well

expiper,
As Russ said, the target is a standard NRA LR-1 target. The "X" ring being 10" and the 10 ring being 20". In my notes, I have 2/3rds MOA and I wasn't concerned about the wind which was up and down that day, not to mention it was 28 deg. :( Brrr
I did shoot the group off a make shift bench, (I am a terrible bench shooter) but the snow was to deep to go prone and sling up, otherwise the group probably would have been better. All I was looking for was how tolerant the bullet was to jump vs. touch vs. jamming them for seating. In my evaluation you could jam them up to .075 or jump them .035 and still hold sub MOA. This is really great news for the shooter that doesn't take the time to sort by bearing surface or to point his bullets. All the testing was done with the bullets right out of the box.
BTW, guess what bullet I'm shooting in the "cheater rifle" next year Russ?? ;)
I hope this helps,
Lloyd

The problem I see now is that you just lost a good excuse for a bad day....

See you at Perry.
Until then behave yourself.

Thank you all for your compliments. I guess I can still hit the target most of the time, on a good day. If I can be of any help, feel free to ask,
Lloyd

Would you please give me the load for your targets shot with the 6.5x284? I can't read the load data on the target # 7. Thank you in advance

its a pretty standard load for the Long range prone shooters. Lapua Brass, Wolf Larg primer, H4350 ( 49gr) with a 140gr Hybrid off the lands by.005

YOu will need to work up to that load... as every rifle is diffrent. Please dont be THAT GUY, in every gun neglagence, is a black eye for the rest of us owners as well. End disclaimer

142 Sierras, 140 Bergers, 140 JLK's I have shot all of them with H4831SC Norma or Lapua Brass, Fed 210 Match primers. Seems every barrel I put on it comes out to be between 51gr and 53gr of H4831SC. All 30" barrels.

Hope that helps

My chamber is the common .188" FB and on a whim I tried jumping them .050" on the very first load I tried with the 140hyb since loading in the lands or jumping very little doesn't leave much room for chasing lands. It put 4rds in what I would guess to be .0xx or at the very worst the low .1's. Loaded with 48.5 of H-4350. Velocity is 2950. Its a 30" 8.5tw Brux. I have a few pics of some groups it has shot. I will see if I can dig them up.

The load shoots phenomenal at all distances
