6.5x.284 win for hunting, what would be the largest game to hunt?

New to hunting but want it head out next year with my 6.5x.284 win, what's some suggested game to go after?

I have access in my state to deer, coyote, and not too much else.... Ideally looking for good eating too

One of my homies just dropped a decent bull elk at a lasered 357yds using a 140gr SST from a 6.5/284. The bullet broke the near shoulder and was just shy of exiting after breaking the far shoulder. Dropped him like a toilet seat.

If deer are your largest game, it will pole-axe them if you hit them properly.

My hunting partner killed a DRT 600 + lb. gemsbok in South Africa at 300 yds. with his bone stock Savage 6.5 Creedmoor, using Hornady Superformance factory ammo, 129gr SST. Had good shot placement & he did recover the bullet.

YOU CAN KILL ANYTHING THAT WE HAVE HERE WITH EAS.JUST REMEMBER IT'S NOT WHAT U DRIVE IT'S WHERE U PARK THE BULLET.GOOD LUCK U CHOSEN A EXCELLENT ROUND.

With the propensity of quality accurate big game bullets (i.e. 140 SST's) you should have no problem with anything from moose, elk down to varmints with the lighter bullets. Great cartridge.

The Nordic countries have been taking moose with the 6.5x55 for 100+yrs. They also TEST shooters on a running moose target for the licensce....

Great cartridge for deer and coyote, skip the coyote and stick to eating the deer ;)

I would say that a mature (300-400lb) wild boar is the toughest animal we have here in the Southeast. The gristle pad on a mature Boar's shoulder is usually about 4-6" thick.

My 6.5-284 has no problem with them. Granted, I shoot the Barnes 127 LRX at 3150 fps, so it penetrates extremely well. I wouldn't feel under-gunned going after any North American game, at reasonable distances.

Brad,
You haven't seen/walked up on the brown carnivores here in AK that are the size of VW Beetles.

I don't think there is a bad 6.5. They have been killing stuff (big and little) for well over a hundred years. Like any other cartridge they have their range limits where they work best. The bullets just penetrate like nothing else. Barlow

Have killed A dozen Elk and one Moose with 140 gr Barnes in 284. Longest shot 360 yds and total pass thru. The 6.5 is same bullet only little longer for the 1/2 mm diff in diameter. Just place you shot.....

I have killed a lot of feral horses with 130 accubonds out of a 260AI. They are running about 3020 fps. I just switched to 140 Accubonds in my 6.5-284 but I didn't shoot anything but a piece of paper with it yet! Was using Bergers but decided to use a tougher bullet as I was having a little trouble with bears and the Bergers.

One of the guys I was with in South Africa used mine to shoot an Eland.
140 grain Nosler Partition, just over 400 yards. Broadside shot and bullet was just under the hide on opposite side.
He fell on his nose.
