What is the max case length for 6.5x284 norma, and trim to length?

I expand mine to 7mm but I usually end up somewhere between 2.145 and 2.150 inches with recent Lapua brass.

6.5x284 winchester max length is 2.170, trim length is 2.160. the 6.5x284 is based on the 284 winchester. norma makes 6.5x284 brass, as do others such as lapua, and the brass is marked 6.5x284 norma, but it is still a 6.5x284 winchester. cliffe

the best way i have found (from advice on here) is to use the sinclair chamber gauge to determine your rifles length. if you trim to book spec you may be trimming to much as i was.

:)I have been using Nosler Custom Brass right from the start,1200 rounds later they are still in great shape. They come already prepped and ready to go, just load them up. OAL has been around 2.160. This is for 6.5x.284 Norma (win).

ttfreestyle is dead on. Most chambers are well over the SAAMI minimum chamber length. My five .308 chambers are 2.034, 2.035, 2.038, 2.039 and 2.040. The SAAMI spec is 2.025 +.015, so all are within tolerance. The usual trim length given for .308 is 2.005, way too short for most chambers.

.284 Winchester has a SAAMI chamber length of 2.180 +.015. The chamber could be 2.195 long and still meet specification. Trimming to the recommended case length of 2.160 could leave a .035 gap to collect carbon and erode the chamber end.

The Sinclair Chamber Length Gage is cheap and easy to use, requiring only one modified case.

When I get a new barrel or rifle, this is one of the first things I measure.
