6.5mm LW barrels and 140g Amax

I'm currently running a Trueflite and it will shoot the 123g Amax but struggles with the 140's despite having the correct 1:8 twist. My friend has Bartlein and has no prob with 140 Amax.
Thinking of an LW barrel and wondered if anyone has tried them with the Amax especially 140g?

LW, Krieger, Bartlein, Shilen, they are all excellent choices. The awesome thing about Lothar Walther is they use a harder alloy of steel.

I just looked at a box of 6.5 140 grain A-Max bullets, and if says on the box 7.5 to 1 twist. Maybe that's why you are having a problem shooting them in your 1-8 twist.

You might get away with the 1-8 twist, but you will probably have to really push them.

I run a Brux barrel with a 1:8.5 twist. 140 amax's work well. Are you sure your Trueflite barrel is at least 1:8.5? Or is it your load for the 140 amax?

Same here: Brux 1-8.5, 26", Rem VS contour. Shoots 140 Amax, Berger VLD, Sierra 142, and Hornady 140 BTHP all very well at 2800ish fps. Not too hot at all.

Don't know why a 1-8" twist won't shoot the 140's.

According to the build specs it is a 1:8 Trueflite. My friend has a Bartlein gain twist. 1:8.5-1:8 and his shoots the 140's very well even down at 2700 with 4350.

Why dont you do the cleaning rod trick and make sure it is 1in8. Some barrels can be off quite a bit in twist regardless of what you ordered.I would also suggest the sierra 140 match or the 142 match.I have not had great luck with 6.5 hornadys out of my barrels.

I could try the cleaning rod trick. It might explain it. I use Amax as its quite explosive on varmints. SMK not much good in that situation.
