6.5mm hunting bullet

I use the 100 gr Sierra HP in my 6.5X55 Swede at 3000 fps and they explode when they hit a ground hog. It cuts them in half and scatters them all around. I would not use them on deer.

I'm just a tad suprised no one is mentioning Nosler 125gr Partitions? Have folks had bad luck with them? I've shot about 10 head of big game in a row now with them, all 1 shot kills - seem to do well for me, but I'd be very anxious to hear other's experiences with them as I was planning on that being the bullet of choice in my kids .260 Rem for Africa later this year... Any thoughts? We'll be going after plains game, mostly smaller species like impala, springbok, etc. and several other species. I want to be very, very careful not to damage the hides as these will be mounted, some full size) but would like a reasonably clean kill, thus the reason I was looking to the partitions...

This may have little to do with the responses, but I did not indicate any game requiring something as heavily constructed as a Partition bullet. Not that they do not exist, but I have never seen a whitetail,or paper/silhouette target) that would require a Partition.

The 125 Partition is a great game bullet but not necessary for white tail deer and most of the time they are not as accurate as other bullets like the Nosler Ballistic Tip or the Sierra game bullets. They should do very well on plains game in Africa.

Hmmmm... interesting thought. I'm guessing you may be right - accuracy may be the reason though they've always shot good enough, though not tack drivers) in my guns of various calibers. One thought though I wanted to share - though they may be constructed to not go to pieces and dump all their energy, I've had exactly zero problems with them opening up properly; in fact I've neck shot several deer and even on the occasional miss of their spine, they've always opened up nicely and dumped the deer in it's tracks. They also opened up amazingly nicely on a female cougar and even a bobcat 2 years ago, one shot at 20 yards while deer hunting and the other from a tree stand at 12 paces. The neck of a deer and the breadths of bobcat and female cougar aren't very thick targets. None went far - in fact the I couldn't even find the smallest shred of heart left from that cougar, I mean just plain gone. So it must be dumping a fair amount of displacement/energy early on. But I could see the concern that other bullets might be more accurate. Hmmm, what to try on the new wild cat. It should be getting significantly higher velocities that my .260 Rem, so I guess the bullet concentricity will be more of a concern than ever, especially with the 1-in-8 twist barrel. Something for me to think about I guess. Good postings and thanks for the info all.
