6.5CM 140gr AccuBond Load data request

I want to start on some new loads for this inexpensive Savage with a 22" barrel. I want to load 140gr Ballistic Tip and/or AccuBonds. Nosler doesn't show the powders I need to use except for H4350. Hodgdon doesn't seem to recognize that Nosler bullets exist. They show a generic A-frame or a Honady bullet. I realize I can just start with something and work the load from there. However, I am hoping another member is already shooting the 140gr AccuBonds using a 22" barrel with success.

Powders I have and would like to use are:
H4350
StaBall 6.5
H4831SC
IMR 4166
IMR 4451

New Starline or Nosler LRP brass. Also have Winchester LRP brass available
CCI 200 LRP

This load will be used exclusively for hunting mule deer and possibly cow elk under 300 yards. Thanks for any suggestions or recommendations. As always, each gun is different so I am just looking at starting points specifically focused on the Nosler bullets.

Thanks Bill for your response.

I mention in my request that Nosler ONLY lists one of the powders that I HAVE available. The H4350. While this is an obviously excellent powder it is also very hard to find. IMR 4350 has begun to show up. I have one pound of H4350. I have at least four pounds of the other powders I listed which is why I would like to find a load, if one exists already, using H4350 along with ANY of these other powders.

On the Hodgdon site they show two 140 grain bullets. The Hornady A-Max and the Swift A-Frame. However, they have completely different C.O.L. numbers for both bullets. So which of the two bullets is the Ballistic Tip or AccuBond more similar to, A-Max or A-Frame?

I would guess maybe the A-Max but without measuring would be hard to say for sure. I don't have either of the two. Sorry. Sta ball 6.5 may not be a bad choice. Watched a video a few nights ago and saw a guy testing it out in a 6.5 C M and from his results I'd say give it a go.

Have you tried looking thru the "Carolina load" thread?

With a 22” barrel, I’d start with the fastest burn rate powder that I had on hand AND was listed in published load data. It will keep recoil and blast down while efficiently harnessing the bulk of the powder charges potential energy.

Sorry I don’t have anything specific for your criteria.

Yes, I had seen that quite awhile ago and will try that too.

The "Carolina" load does quite well with accuracy, though velocities are off a bit from those achievable with H4350, RE16, etc. If you're OK with the velocities you'll see with the "Carolina" load in your 22" hunting rifle, you might go the other direction and try Nosler's "accuracy" load of a light charge IMR 8208XBR. Velocities will likely be on par with the "Carolina" load and you won't have a ton of muzzle blast.

Do you have Quickload?
No I don't have Quickload. Guess that would make it easier. Seems funny that as popular as the AccuBonds and Ballistic Tips are in 140gr their load data for 6.5CM is hard to find from actual shooters. Obviously Hodgdon and Nosler have their load data right online. Most shooters that post their experiences seem to be shooting the 130gr range of bullets.

The only reason I asked, is I mostly shoot my 6CM with some of the powders you have. I have the Ba's for my lots of powders and could share those with you if you did.

I'm just working on loads for a 6.5 CM currently. Didn't shoot but a few powders and H4350 and RL 16 tied for best, just like they do in my 6 CM's. Shot some N555, but found I was running out of case capacity for the 140 gr bullets.

Thanks very much for the offer.

I know that H4350 and RL 16 are very popular with this load and for good reason. They work. I'll just have to settle on the H4350 first and then try the StaBall 6.5. I live and shoot at 9200 feet and not all "book" loads work the same.
