6.5 x47 Lapua with 130 gr. bullet twist rate

Hello,

I am curious about these 130 grain 6.5 bullets. In a 6.5 x47 Lapua case what would be the very best barrel twist rate for these bullets? I note my 1-8 barrel shoots these bullets but not nearly as well as the 140's. Is the gain in velocity ( 26 inch barrel) worth the extra time and expense versus the wind drift superiority of the 140-142 grain bullets in the same caliber?

Thanks

I have used BOTH the "straight" 8 twist and I now have an 8.5 twist. I have found NO DIFFERENCE between the 2 using the 123-130 class bullets. Conversely, at least in this 1 barrel (8.5), the 140's do not shoot as well as they did in the straight 8 twist barrels I have had. BUT that could just be this barrel, just as your barrel may favor one bullet over another.

gene so,
Use our TWIST RATE CALCULATOR found here:

And read Eric and Bryan article on how to interpret your results here :

Be sure to enter the correct or as close to correct ALTITUDE when using the Twist Rate Calculator and base your twist rate choice on the lowest altitude you will be shooting at. You can find altitudes on the National Weather Service website using ZIP CODES.
As far as the choice between the 130 and 140 grain bullets go and advantages use our BALLISTICS CALCULATOR to see what your wind drift and drop differences are between the two to help with your choice here :
