6.5 x47 Lap What twist

I am just getting ready and parts been sourced to build a 6.5 x 47 Lap but i am undecided to which twist rate to use,any help would be appreciated with regards to bullet weights and types etc.The one i have in mind is a 1 in 8.5 which i think should be ok up to 150 grain bullets.Cheers

8.5tw covers about everything.

I'll second 1:8.5. Good compromise that should work well for lighter and heavier bullets. BTW, what 150 gr bullet are you planning to shoot?

Berger recommends 1:8 for the 140 VLD, so I suspect you are at the edge with the 150s. Mine is a 1:8, throated for the 130s, but it really likes the 140 VLD

If you don't get the groups you are expecting with the 150s, back down some.
I think the 140 VLD BC is 612 the 140 target is 592.

1:8.5 in a 28" Border drives Scenar 123gr and 139gr is a delight

Robbin - What is your OAL with the 140's? Do you recall what freebore you have?

The OAL is 2.79 and the FB is .123 According to PTG where I bought the reamer, it was perfect for the 130s I wanted to shoot, but the 140s shoot even better, That OAL, puts them into the lands. I like light tension and Moly to make the bullet slip into and out of the case neck easily. She's just getting broken in good (400 rdns) and is really starting to shoot. My Nightforce NXS 12X42X56 comes in next week, then we'll see what she can do. Even with my 20X Leupold, she's sub .5 MOA out to 900 yards (as far as I can shoot at my camper).
She likes RL17, but ever gun I've tried it in likes it. I use it in my .270, 308 and 25-06. Now that she is really shooting well, I'm going to fine tune the load and also try the 130s again.

My gun is a Hart 28 inch heavy on an old Rem 700 Long action trued by heart.
PTG reamer (mine) .123 fb, .290 neck turn neck.

Man do I love the 6.5X47 Lapua....

Thanks Robbin. I have a no turn reamer with .125 FB coming from Kiff. I'm off to buy some bullets and powder tomorrow so think I'll go as high as 140's. I didn't know where to start but I'm looking forward to have this thing together by spring.
