6.5 x 47 Lapua / I'd like to use 85gr Sierra Varmint but they are very short????

The 6.5x47L shows that it has an OAL of 2.700". The Lapua case is 1.700" I think..... The Sierra 85gr is only .845" long (My memeory on the exact length), If I load the bullet one caliber (.264") deep into the throat it will leave a gap of .25" to the lands..... You can't load the round to 2.7" the bullet won't touch the case..... What will this do to consistancy and accuracy, with a .25" gap.... I'd like to try the cartridge on coyotes, etc. Has anyone tried this bullet, just for fun......
Thanks, Desert

Hi Mike, I load my 308 with 135 bergers and there only sticking in the mouth of the case .138 and it works out great ..... give it a try

DesertH -

Howdy !

For what it's worth..... Sierra 6mm 85 BTHPs weigh more consistently alike, than any other 6mm bullets I've also weighed; thus far. Includes Bergers, Sierra MKs, and others.

They also grouped superbly in my 6mm wildcat-chambered rifle ( in my rifle's instance.... some .002" off the lands ).

Best of luck in your endeavors.

Ive shot 55gr sierra blitzkings in my 22BRX with about 300 thou bullet jump... I wasnt concerned about chasing lands as I knew it would only be possible with longer match bullets. I just made sure there was plenty of bullet in the neck and shot them. Grouped around the 0.6 which is minute of coyote as far as you can make the shot... Bottom line- just try them with them seated to where your comfortable with in the neck. You never know they may shoot well.
