6.5 × 47 Lapua 1000yrd load?

I just picked up a bolt gun in 6.5x47 Lapua. I am new to this cartridge, and trying to find data on it I have plenty of N140 and Berger 140gr long range bullets. I plan on shooting this for long range and Mid Range.

If you search for "6.5x47 load data" you will find a wealth of information. I have had several 6.5x47s and have never used or heard of anyone shooting N140, but that doesn't mean it wont work. It looks a little fast to be optimal but I dnt see why you cant try it. H4350 and N550 are more commonly used powders IME.

My 6.5x47L likes varget, I’ve tried all the others and the rifle has a strong preference for varget. H4350 gets used more than any other I know but your rifle should tell you what it likes. The link that SPJ provided has a lot of very useful info, It’s where I pulled my starting load from and tweaked it a bit. It’s a wonderful cartridge. My load is varget, BR-4, Berger 140.

H4350 is a no brainer. Great cartridge, one of my favorites. 1000 should not dissapoint if you find a good load. IME its been very easy to find accurate loads.

Your N140 would probably work. I know its hard to find powder so shoot what ya got. If N140 is like N150-N165 it will not be temp stable. The upshot is it burns cooler.

In the three barrels I have burned out in 6,5 x 47 all have liked RL-15 and Varget, but many find great luck with H4350. I started with the x47 cases as soon as they became available and there were few shooting it and I started with Varget and had great results, but if I were to start today I would try both 4350 and Varget to see what works for the simole matter that many find great results with H-4350 also.

Regardless of whether you use H-4350, Varget, RL-15 or similar burn rates I think you will have great results as the x47 is an case to tune.

I have way more N140 than Varget so I might give it a try, but would like to try R15.5 if they ever sent any into the country. I have not seen it available in two years now.

I’ve used IMR4350, Staball6.5, N550 in combination with 136 Scenars, and Berger 140’s loaded near max, usually a couple of tenths below max. Doesn’t take long to fine tune.

H4350 is the way to go with 140 and 142 gr pills. Tommy Mc

I wouldn’t worry too much about the temp stability of N140. I developed my GT loads when it was 100 plus degrees every day and I’m shooting the same load with the same accuracy at 25-50 degrees.

H4350 is widely available and would work as well or better. If you have a 22” or shorter barrel, try that N140. If you have a 28” bench gun, hunt down some H4350.

I’ve had 3 or 4 of them and most liked varget. One was H4350 or bust. Several of the very competitive BR guys have used RL 15 and even H4895.

It is not a finicky round.

Yes, it was designed for match shooting out to 1000M (1094 Yards) with a 9.0g (139 gr) bullet. Which is not bad for a medium sized cartridge compared to Creedmoor or 260 Remingtin.

I buddy of mine called me this past fall asking if I could bring out a rifle for a friend to shoot. He does "dream" hunts for Veterans. He was a Purple heart recipient and wanted to shoot long range. I met them at my range next door that goes out to 2500. I brought out my 6.5x47, Had good dope out to 1250 and around 75 rounds. He had first round hits from 300 out to 1250. Big smile. So yeah, it'll do it.
I think I had more fun than him.

Point is, it's more than capable. I'm also at 5500 ft, so there's that. First barrel was chambered for the 140s, just put on a new barrel that's chambered for the 130s. Looking good so far but can't get out to distance yet, stupid winter.
