6.5 varmint bullets

It would be really nice if hornady would make a v max or sierra would make a blitzking in the 110-115 grain range. I guess i will try out the 120 or 123 grain a max and see how they perform on groundhogs. If anyone has varmint experience with these bullets please give your 2 cents. thanks

Speer used to make 87 grain bullets that my 264WM could get up to 3800 fps or so. They were explosive. I see now they make a 100 grain in the TNT Varmint line.

You want plastic tipped bullets for better BC? Sierra makes 85 and 100gr varmint bullets with a hollow point of considerable size. I've had 100gr version sitting on my shelf for almost two years, haven't got into trying it.

BCs are only in the .22-.26 range.

Nosler makes a 100 grain Ballistic Tip also.

They shoot real well in my 260, but I haven't made goo yet...

The 100 Sierra HP is a bomb. It shoots great and will explode on impact with a ground hog out of my 6.5X55. The 120 Nosler BT shoots very accurately and will kill a ground hog but it is not as explosive as the 100 Sierra. The 120 BT makes a great deer killer. I have not tried them but the 100 Nos. BT should make a good varmint bullet.

I also like the 100hp sierras. they are great out of a .264wm, .260 rem, whatever. they work on groundhogs, deer, etc. i wouldn't recommend them when using a .264wmag on turkeys. turkey is too good to eat. :D

I have killed a mess o' coyotes with an 85gr. Sierra and 49grs H414 in my Kreiger barreled 260 Rem model 7. At nearly 3500 fps they are devastating!

Thanks for the replys, Yeah i was looking for a high bc but still want a explosive bullet, yet not to heavy with decent speed. I have some 95 grain v-max pills to try but dont know how my 8 twist will handle them, I have a box of factory rem loads with the 120 nosler to break my barrel in, maybe i will try a few on hogs. To buy the noslers though is a little expensive, even compaired the the a-max. But i dont mind a few bucks if somthing works.

Most explosive hit on a g`hog I have ever seen with any bullet/cartridge was a 95 AMax out of a .264 Win Mag.

My buddy has a M70 Westerner that produced the hit. Parts and pieces in the general vicinity. We calculated the distance to be 500 yds.

This was a number of years ago. Don`t know the mv he was loading to but the Hornady manual suggests 3500 fps. Mind you this is in the era of lawyer-written reloading manuals. The Hogdgon web site suggest closer to 3700 fps with the 100 gr SP. So who knows what his actual mv was.
