6.5 tcu rifle build need quick load HELP!!!!!!

Hello, all

Great Forum long time viewer.

need some help please!!!!!

quick load HELP !!!!!!!

building a 6.5 tcu rifle savage varmint barrel 20" - 26" 1-8 twist
if it will not be too fast for 120 amax .465 bc and
123 a max 510 bc.
Having reamer made by Pacific for max overall.
thinking of h4895 or imr 8208 xbr
not sure what length.
will the 1-8 twist put too much pressure hindering velocity.
would like the maximize the full potential of the cartridge

barrel will be a match hand lapped ss criterion button rifled.
division of Krieger Barrels.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You
Dave

I do not think the 1 in 8" twist will cause any problem in any 6,5.
Yours will be much slower than other cartridges,so a fast twist will be of help.
Sincerely
Filippo

With a 2.640 cartridge, and a 123 grainer, 25 grains of Vihta's N133 should help you reach about 2650fps in a 26 incher and possibly 50 to 80 fps more if you use N530. There should be no harm in using a 1 in 8.5" if extreme accuracy is the goal but I don't think it would be sensible to adopt a slower twist like 1 in 9"

just ran across this site and thought id update
i use a 204 case and have called mine a 264kmagic,,in this caliber im using 125 nosler partitions and with a 22 inch barrel i get 2600 fps,,i use the rifle for all my big game hunting up to thar and red stags,,have just brought a hagn falling block action and will put a 26 1/2 inch barrel on it from here in nz,,made by trueflite with a 8 1/2 twist,,lapped
my background in hunting is fourteen yrs professional culler and still hunt at age 64,,here in nz we shoot a lot of deer(animals)as we have yr around hunting,,
we have 7 type of deer,,thar,,chamois,,goats,,pigs,,wapiti being one of the deer and i will use my 264kmagic to hunt them with,,the partition is a great projectile with lots of penetration
once i have the falling block in action i will be utilizing the sst 123 gr as i believe i can drive it at around 2800 with the longer barrel,,not saying that ill use the 123ssst for all game but certainly on deer up to red stags,,this projectile should give me over 1000 flb at 500 yrds
no problem in sharing info if anyone interested just pm me
cheers from nz

havnt done a 6.5 but have built lots of 6TCU rifles with fast twist barrels. 8208 should be THE powder for the 6.5TCU from my experience with heavy bullets in the 6mm. I would expect 2650 from a 120 in a 22" barrel.

2550 in a 7TCU w/120s is about right, dropping to a smaller bore, longer bullets, faster twist does not help. Anything 2600 or over is very good in a sporter length.

My 8 twist would do 2650 EASY with a 105 amax in a 20" barrel. Going to a bigger bore should offset the 15gr weight difference in projectile. Maybe i push a little harder than 65BR does. Brass seems to last quite a while so i am not worried about it.

Something to think about when having the reamer made is the neck length will be shorter (as will case AOL) when necking from 204 to 6.5. I shoot the 6.5 x 47 (222 rem mag). With nominal "new" brass @1.840 (222 mag) necking up to 6.5 will end up with a (roughly) 1.815 case length before clean-up trim. Buy a dedicated tapered expanding mandrel (I have a K&M) and I use Imperial sizing wax.
