6.5 saum 700 long action repeater

I want to build a 6.5 saum on a long action 700 but reliable feeding is an issue. I tested feeding with some dummy rounds in my 300 ultramag(long action) and the top round in the magazine would flop out instead of feeding in the chamber. With only one round in the magazine it feeds fine. This is an adl bottom metal gun. Would using hs precision bottom metal for a long action ultra mag solve this feeding problem or am I hosed? Is the hs a centerfeed magazine? Would this help? This is going to be a lightweight hunting rifle as streamlined as posible thus the hs vs. AI mags or something like that. Anybody have expieriance with this issue?

Over on the 24hourcampfire forum in the longrange hunting section a couple of guys a shooting the 6.5 SAUM. with clips . You might check with them.
