6.5 RSAUM - 140 AMAX

So, I finally got to test some 140 Amax loads in my 6.5 RSAUM. I by chance found 400-140 Amax in my bullet stash. Loaded from 60.0 to 62.5 of H1000 in .3 increments in a 10 shot string. This is a hunting rifle with a 24 inch barrel. The 61.0=3081, 61.3=3087, 61.6=3089. This node seems to be the flat spot with the Chronograph (Magneto Sporter). However, even at 62.5 grains which yielded 3142 fps, there were no pressure signs at about 88 degrees here in Georgia. I can taste the grilled backstrap already!

I am not surprised at your results. I have a 6.5 pcr which has a few grains less capacity and my h1000 loads with the 150smk run around 3110-3140 with a 30" 7.5 t barrel.
You have a winner. RL26 will give higher velocities but what difference does 50fps mean in your hunting rifle? I would not burn a lot of test loads that will shorten your barrel life. I have been told that H1000 is easier on barrels and I am willing to accept that without burning out a $600 barrel to prove it.

Thanks Bill! I agree completely. I am just for fun gonna load up some (3) at 62.5 and shoot them at 200 yards...my planed Zero for this rifle and see how they group. But...the hunting load will probably be 61.5 for the most part unless they don't shoot well. But from what I saw at the range....they will.

You should try rl 23 you will be closer to 3200 ish.
55.0 in a 6.5 rem mag is 3130 with a 147.. my saum likes h-4831sc at 3100

Interesting...how long is your barrel? I have only a 24 inch med or standard Palma on this rifle.

Pushing that big of a .264cal bullet near 3100 is doing ALOT already, the SAUM is a badazz!
I'd sooner focus on zeroing in on the most forgiving, repeatable load, rather than trying to eeek out a couple more FPS. You're on the right track...

Fwiw, 6.5 4s has a 24" 1:8.5, & throws a 140JLK real nice with a mild load of H1000 @ 3070fps. 130HVLD runs 3205fps...

26 inch is my barrel, it’s amazing stuff in saum, 6.5-06 147 at 3100. Both are not at max close but not there.
