6.5 Remington magnum brass wanted

Remington brass is not easy brass to find, but Bertram makes it and probably has some in stock.

Remington brand 6.5 Rem Mag brass has been reduced to seasonal manufacturing schedules for years. Remington makes a run every 2-3 years then puts it on the back burner again. As has been stated before, their marketing department is the worst as far as firearms manufacturers go. So, like everyone else on this planet, when the renewed supply hits the streets, it generally sells out in a couple of weeks due to hoarding.

However, during one of the longest dry spells back in the late 90s, we had no other option than to make our own from other belted magnum cases which were readily available. Was it easy? No. Was it hard? Not really but it was a nuisance, tedious at best. But given a practical approach to the process, you can create the cases then turn the necks and have some really nice brass to hold you over until the next release by Remington.

I was subjected to the whims, prices and inconsistent quality of Bertram for 20 years. It was garbage then, it's mostly garbage now. We often needed some European cartridge or other or an obsolete, obscure case for a client, Bertram was the only resource. Soft. End of statement. Unusable from some of the runs and somewhat usable from another. Expensive. Waste of money.

Someone suggested that there was a time lapse between when I was using it and the current runs. So I spent some hard earned money to buy some of the new version of the Bertram brass and it was unsuitable, again. Overpriced, under delivered. But Nosler is only slightly better...

I've never tried Bertram brass. So many mixed reviews it has always scared me off from buying it. Remington brass is nothing to write home about either, but it cleans up well with some trimming, flash hole de-burring, primer pocket uniforming, and neck turning. Always neck turn Remingron brass even if you dont have a tight neck chamber. The neck wall thicknesses are so inconsistent it's ridiculous. I turn them just enough to knock down the high spots. Makes all the difference in the world for consistent accuracy.

Photos of a 300 yard group and 600 yard group shot with two different loads in the same rifle using fully prepped and neck turned Remington brass.

No argument there. Taking off the high spots results in better accuracy overall.;)

Either of those loads will be suitable for hunting loads especially with the groups you shot off a bipod.:)

Shooting small groups on paper is easy. Anybody can do it. Hitting an area the size of a pie plate with the first shot from an awkward rest while hunting is the hard part ;) Often times you dont get a second chance.

I know this is an old thread but I just inherited a Remington 660 in 6.5 rem mag and am looking for brass to reload. Also any load recipes would be appreciated. Looking for 50-100?

I've made it from 7mm Rem Mag brass.
Anneal shoulder & about 1/2" down.
Expander removed from 6.5 full length die.
With the shoulder properly annealed you can do it in 3-4 increments.
Cut/trim neck.
Anneal again.
Load and done.
