6.5 prc with 156 bergers

I have a Christensen arms mesa. Im wanting to get the 165 eol bergers to group at least a 3/4 inch group at 100 yards. I have been trying N565 so far. My charges have been 54.5, 55.0, 55.5, 56.0, 56.5, 56.8, 57.1, 57.4, 57.7 and nothing has stood out group wise. I am seating them just long enough th fit in the box mag. Its a long jump to lands. .143 thou. I measure off ogive but the loaded oal is 2.958. Bergers data is 2.955 so im close to theirs. Im using new lapua cases still on first fire. Best group i can get is just over 1 inch. I hear people are having good luck with this combo but so far i have not. A friend suggested to place target at 200 yards to see if the bullet stables out better at distance. His same rifle shoots same group at 100 yards as it does at 300 yards. He is using different bullets and powder. Anyone have any hands on luck with this combo?

I have no knowledge about your rifle.
You say your friend's rifle shoots the same at 100 as at 300. Does his rifle shoot well or is he having the same issues ?

My first shot in the dark is what is the barrel twist.

My second comment would be from the info on your rifle -
ACCURACY
GUARANTEE
SUB-MOA

Did you get a test target with the rifle ?

Did/does it group with other ammo ?

My friends rifle shoots about 1/2 inch at 100 yards and same load is 1/2 inch at 300 yards. His rifle is getting better as round count adds up. It took over 100 rounds to tighten up. Im just over 70 rounds now. Its got a 1 moa guarentee. Its a 1:8 twist 24 inch pencil barrel. No factory test target came with rifle. It does better with 143 eldx factory loads but want more of a hunting bullet. I do have 2 boxes of 143 eldx if all else fails. I shot some 147 eldm factory loads but do not remember how it went, was only 5 rounds i think.

Have you done a seating depth test? If you haven't, you really don't know how the rifle shoots.

Some rifles just don't like certain bullets. I had no trouble getting my 6.5 PRC custom to shoot that bullet, though I haven't tried it in my sporter weight gun. Both mine are 1:7.5" twist rates.

I have not checked seating depth due to needing to fit in the mag. If i seat bullet closer to lands it will have to be single fed. This would be okay from a bench but i got this only for hunting and if a follow up shot is needed wont be quick. In order for round to fit in mag its a .143 jump from the lands. Way excessive in my opinion but im limited by the box mag

I have messed with the 156 in various calibers and rifles. finicky is the word I would use to describe them. They are not my favorite and I have decided to stick with the plain ol 140 VLD Hunting for most things. Truth be told the animals on the other end of them couldn't tell the difference between the two.

Has your friend shot your loads (that you say is not shooting well) with better results ?

How far is the jump in his rifle ?

No He has not. He has tried 143 eldx, 147 eldm, and 153.5 bergers. All with R26. Yesterday i helped another friend with his browning in 6.5 prc. Found a good load with 147 eldm and 153 atips both with H1000. Im thinking i might have to try another bullet or powder

A friend suggested to place target at 200 yards to see if the bullet stables out better at distance. His same rifle shoots same group at 100 yards as it does at 300 yards.

When a 1" group at 100 turns into a 2" at 200 and 3" group at 300, take it and run.
When a 1" group at 100 turns into a 1.5" at 200 and 2" at 300, it is an anomaly and doesn't repeat at one end or the other. Shoot again and one or more of those groups will explain the observation.

The confusion comes with misinterpretation of published plots of dynamics that show these spiral shaped modes dying down with distance. Keep in mind that the dimensions on those plots are not the same thing as group impact points.

They may prefer to be SHORTER.

I have had 10 fiends buy christensen arms rifles and everyone of them shot bad! sent some back to factory but when they came back they still shot bad! Every one of them went bye-bye! I have never in my 70 plus years seen a bunch of factory guns this bad!

I have now heard this several times from other people. I dont expect this to be a 1/4 inch group rifle but better than it is. This is the first factory rifle that has taken some time trying to find an okay load for. Im going to try a different powder and if not that then a different bullet and just see what happens. Hell, i got to get drawn to be able to use it for hunting.

Sell it and buy a Cooper or build one. You will save a lot of headache. I have more than a couple friends who bought them and can’t get MOA out of them.

I agree sell it. I have a Christian BA tactical and it totally sucks, even put a new bartlien barrel on it. assuming its the action now causing the failure to perform. will be truing up the action to see if i can get the 2500.00 paperweight to shoot

So i took a measurement with the 143 eldx and i am able to seat touching lands and barly fit in mag. So i loaded up some to try with .020 jump. I sure hope i find a load soon or i might just give up. Another thought i had was to bed the action. I had a 308 that would show a load as ok. Id load up some more and next time out group opened up. Changed stock and solved issue.

Yep, saw the same thing, with Christensen arms rifles, not accurate...guys shooting them angry at the big group sizes, and wasting expensive ammo and spending so much for the rifle that doesn't shoot. Some I saw were embarrassing inaccurate. Like, "have you ever shot a rifle before?"
Box em up and send them back...I have a friend who bought a 300 PRC, it didn't shoot, don't say much about it anymore. Then bought another, in 308, thinking the 308 would surely be accurate...it didn't shoot either...cause he liked the looks and style, ...but both are crappy shooters.

I will spend a little more time then if nothing its gone. Just need to find someone willing to buy it will be the hard part
