6.5 PRC Berger 153

Does anyone have any reload data for the 6.5PRC, trying to test Berger 153 VLD Hybrid, ill be using IMR 4350 fed primers? Nothing in any of my books for a bullet that big.

Not much, I've always used it, I have a few pounds of IMR 8208XBR

I also could use IMR 4831

IMR 4831 would be a better choice. Probably between 50 and 52 grains.

That 153 has the longest bearing surface any of the hybrids, would definitely go for slower powders

Yeah I'm not sure why I want to shoot them but I've always like the bigger bullets.

i shoot that bullet in my prc and my choice of powder is reloader 23... hornady doesnt list the powder your asking about with a 153.gr atip... like has been said its a little too fast a burning powder... h1000, h4831 , re 23, re26 are all much better choices

Well with what available right now, I'm kinda stuck with what I have, I called berger today and they said IMR 4831 will work 46.5 min and 51.5 max. Once more powder is available I'll try something else. Thanks for your advice.

What kind of speeds are you pushing those 153's at?

I have tried them. Best powders for me were H 1000 and R26. I can get around 3100 from my 7.5t 30 " barrel. However the SMK 150 gave me better accuracy at around 3100 with H1000. In my opinion it was not worth the barrel erosion to work up a load for the Bergers. R26 gives about 50fps more velocity but H1000 is more accurate in my rifle.

I'm working up loads with both RL26 and Retumbo. Need to use slower powder with this bullet. Retumbo is best with my rifle but only have RL26 so I am working with that. Both over 3100 fps with Retumbo getting closer to 3200 fps. 26 inch Proof barrel 7.5 twist.
