6.5 LA build

Building a long action in 308 bf and deciding on the case to do it. Wanna run 147-150 weight bullets around 2950-3000 and not have a issue with aol. Kinda leaning towards a 6.5 swed for a base wildcat. I think the 6.5-284 is out as it leaves me short on round capacity in mags.
Let the opinions and thoughts loose!
Thanks

For top end performance on a long action standard bolt face look into the 6.5 SHERMAN. Similar to a GIBBS but with a longer neck. Top end loads out of mine gets a 140 Berger going 3339 fps out of a 28" Hart using N570. Parent case is a 270 Win. Brass prep is a bit of work but it is very efficient and accurate.

A 6.5 x55 AI can do what you are asking with the right powder. I can push a 150 SMK at 2940-50fps without compressing the load or pressure signs with ReLoder 23 (Bob Jourdan AI variant) with Lapua brass. I have yet to lose a case from primers pockets opening up with too many cycles to track on some lots of brass (at least 20 firings if not closer to 30 on some). If pushing over 3000fps the pockets will open some in a firing but I have only aimed for the mid 2900's area and any 3000fps + loads were a single event on any particular case. I would presume case life to get a bit short in that higher territory. Accurate barrel life on Bartleins is at least 1500rds with 142's but I have not run more than about 600 150's in two barrels so I can't attest to the life with these heavier pills.

That’s weird... my 6.5 Sherman was a short mag. Are there two?

So that would be the 6.5 bjAI?

Clancy. I believe Rich first developed the LA Sherman's. Now has a Couple different SA with head stamped brass. I've had my Sherman for 5 years now and really have not shot it much in the last 3 years. Maybe time to bring it out and try some 147 ELD-M.

LUV my 6.5 Sherman. 3,180 with 140s and 3100 with 150s in 26" 1:8 Bart. I backed off some, to get 10-12 firings on brass. It's not much different than the 6.5-280 AI, both are excellent rounds for standard bolt face, long actions. Whidden makes dies for the Sherman.

This was talked about in this Thread: http://forum.accurateshooter.com/threads/6-5-gwi-or-bjai.3942716/

The Difference between the 6.5 Creedmoor-6.5x55 and the bjAI is the the Creed is only 30 Degree Shoulder vs 40 & Creedmoor Reamers are everywhere along with Creedmoor Dies. You could just set the Lock Washer at the appropriate height and save money on custom dies. I don't know the amount of Stretch one would encounter via either Shoulder.

Not quite......body taper, body length, base diameter, shoulder diameter all different on a Creedmoor vs the 6.5 x55 BJAI. I shoot 6.5 and 6 Creedmoor in addition to the BJAI.

I built a 6.5x55mm BJAI, but haven't done anything more than fireforming. I'm hoping it performs in the mid-2900fps range. Bob Jourdan's original reloading data was not the fastest and tops out at 2,968 fps with a 140gr, H414, a magnum primer and 27" barrel. Were I to do it, again, I'd just go with the new 6.5 PRC.

How many rounds do you need ? You can run 10 Rd DBMs and they'll hold seven to eight 284 size cases. How about a 6.5 WSM ? Plenty of engine to run 150s to 3100 and 10 Rd mags will hold 7 RDS.
