6.5 Creedmoor ? ?

I had two factory Savage rifles in 6.5 creed and liked them. sold them both.
Now that Lapua is making brass I want to barrel a Tac 30 I have to 6.5 Creed. I run a stiller bottom with a AI mag 2.800"

My question is does some one have a Saami reamer spec ?
Can I throat it so a loaded round is 2.770 with a berger 140 HVLD and A 143 ELD-X and still be ok.
I ran them at 2.990 in my savage-shot great. that wont work in my 2.800 AI
Is there a better chamber for the Lapua Brass ? or is it set for saami spec ?

Which AI mag is only 2.800"? My AICS mags are loading the 147 ELD-Ms at 2.870" without a problem. You will not want to load the 140 and 143 at that short of an OAL as it sticks it pretty deep in the case and takes up your powder room. The SAAMI spec chamber is a .199 free bore and with that I am at .020" off the lands with the 147s at 2.870". Touching at 2.890". Will be very similar with the 143 ELD. Your old Savage chamber must have had a longer freebore as some factory chambers can.

You can get chambers with shorter freebore. They make one with a .169 freebore which would be a good choice if you want to keep the OAL shorter. Basically OALs would be .030" shorter than my numbers above.

Thank you rob. I never knew that the AI mag was that long...I just thought it was 2.800 and really never checked it.
I know I run 6XC's threw it at 2.790 and they look tight..So I did measure it and I come up with 2.890..So I dug out my 6.5 creed's and found I was off on my OAL also. Short ones base to tip were 2.883 long were 2.886. So I stuffed that mag with 5 long ones and they fit..Seem like they would feed. So I would like to be 2.880 touching so a freebore of
say .185 would allow me to grow slightly and still stay in the mag..I think my loaded rounds were .010 off..But not sure.
That was a 140 HVLD..which is a bullet I would shoot plus I would like to try the 143 ELD-x's So I would be in the case a little further but I don't think it would hurt me real bad.

Has anyone shot the Lapua Brass enough yet to know if the SAAMI chamber size is good. Or is there a better chamber for the Lapua Brass? I will be ordering a barrel blank soon. I may just spec my own reamer. As I have for several rifles
to me it's worth it to have it how I like it to be.

No problem. The Lapua brass works fine in the SAAMI spec chamber. It's necks aren't much thicker than the Hornady and around the Norma from reports. It's built to work in the standard chamber.

Thanks Rob. I will order a barrel and some cases and look at some prints and figure how I want it chambered.
Will be nice just to screw a barrel on this rifle and not have to build a whole new one. This one is a 6XC but I have another 6XC so going to turn this one in to a 6.5 creed. I like the cartridge a lot but at the time I had way too many guns and I was not going to make more Brass for it..not that the brass I made was tired. anyway sold them, now that Lapua is making brass I want another one.
