Varmint, I'd recommend DPMS, 24" heavy barrel 1:8.5 is just fine for Sierra 85gr.

Great choice. I owned the exact AR in the 6.5 CM. 24" bull. 8.5 T. Panther model LR65. Loved it. Used 140 Amax for varmints. Figured might as well use what I hunted deer with just for ease of memory in drop and wind. Loved it but not quite as much as the 260. Sold it and now own its maternal twin brother. Still it's a great choice for your need. Never shot light bullets so can't help.

I think DPMS offers a LR-260 Lite Hunter with a carbon fiber handguard and light contour 20" barrel. I have the DPMS LR-.243 Lite Hunter upper that shoots 87grn V-Max under 1-MOA. It is a 8lb gun with a scope and full 5 round magazine. I know they make a DPMS LR308 GII Lite Hunter that is sweet, 2-stage trigger, carbon fiber handguard, 20" light barrel. Maybe some day they will offer it in a 260 Rem or 6.5 Creedmoor.
I also own a DPMS LR-6.5 Creedmoor with the 24" Bull Barrel, it is a nice gun however, 12 or so pounds. It shoots the factory 120grn Hornady ammo at 2820fps well under 1MOA. The barrel is throated for the heavier VLD style bullets, the light weight varmint bullets have way too much jump before they get to the rifling.
Black Hole Weaponry (BHW) offers 6.5 Creedmoor barrels. I do like the BHW barrels, I own a couple of them for the AR-15 platform and they all shoot very very well. My two favorites are the 20 Practical & 6mm-45.
