I built this cartridge on the urging of my customers.
I have not had much time with it as of yet, but the latest tests are as follows:
142 Sierra, Seated 30 Thou from the rifling:
Load Avg Vel ES SD
51.0 H1000 2849 39 18
52.0 H1000 2911 50 18
48.5 N165 2910 45 17*
49.5 N165 2971 47 16
50.5 N165 3038 45 16*
All loads shot under 1MOA and 2 loads,*) were under 1/2 MOA. Testing was performed in 10 to 15 MPH cross winds at about 63 degrees. 200 yards, bench, iron sights.
I think the ES and SD will improve with different seating of the bullets.
No load listed showed any signs of pressure.
This cartridge is a derivative of the 6CM and reamers can be purchased from Pacific Tool. Dies are available by contacting me at 6CM@comcast.net
I’m still working on the correct loading for the cartridge, however I’m excited about the velocity I’m getting.
The current chambering is set up so that the 142 will seat just to the shoulder/neck junction. ,I’m seating my test loads slightly deeper).
This should be a huge improvement to the .260 and given the velocities we are getting it will be a great choice for XTC shooters. I’d believe that using H1000 or N165 shooters will see 30% longer barrel life over the 6.5 x 284 with simular velocities.
I’m not sold on this cartridge as of yet and simply wanted to share my information with everyone. If the velocities had be 20%,as expected) I would not have posted as there would not have been anything interesting.
I’m shooting the 6CM and I’m busy with work and family so additional posts will be slow coming on the 6.5CM.
