6.5 CM Load Hornady 130 ELD Match

Just ordered my first 6.5 CM rifle, a Seekins Havak Bravo. I have Hornady 130 grain ELD Match bullets and Varget on hand. Would appreciate some load advice with these components to get me going.

Start with the start loads, shown in one of you reloading manuals or pull up Hornadys Load Data site, for starters.

Hogdon Reloading site with Varget - 31.4 start / 34.9 max. With the 34.9 max load confirming a speed in the 2600 FPS range. When looking at 5 of their powders H414 at max load confirms a speed of right at 2700 FPS (with whatever test rifle they use).

You may want to get a new Hornady 11th edition manual. Your numbers with Varget and the 130 eld match does not match theirs at all.

Just looked at Sierra loads for 130 grain match king tipped with Varget. They listed max 38.8 grain of Varget for 2800 FPS, that’s more like it. Obviously Hogdon has not updated their website for a long, long time!

I think Hornady max was .6 of grain lower than that^^^.
That was for the 130 eld match you were referring to.

Sure, to clarify red highlights are used on max loads and approach with caution.

Granted, not much powder is out there, but with the work you'll put into developing the load, you might try a more ideal powder. I don't doubt you can get your load to shoot very well with some work, but powder a notch or two slower burning that Varget might give optimal velocity / case fill / ES & SD.

Best of luck on your endeavors! I think the 130/140 class is best for that case and given the choice, I too would go 130.

Thanks again for the info! I can get my hands on some Reloader 17 and try that. I looked at a powder burn chart and RL 17 is right after H4350 so it should work very well!

Was able to find 1 pound of “unobtanium” H4350 today from MidSouth Shooters, good company to deal with. With powder, tax, Hazmat fee and shipping cost was $75 however glad to get it to try in my soon to be received 6.5CM. At this point I have H4350, RE17 and Varget to try.

Because the speeds you are going to see with the RL17 is going to blow your mind!

Just my opinion but I believe far too slow won't be able to get enough in the case to get a usable velocity .

I was just curious in the velocities that folks are seeking. I would be in the 24" barrel range. I was lucky enough to have picked up some of the Sierra 130gr Gamechangers. I have some RL -26.
