6.5-47L velocity in a 24" barrel?

Anybody actually know or can do a Quickload to see what velocity can be expected from a 6.5-47Lapua shooting 130gr Berger VLDs out of a 24" barrel?

Im hoping for 2850fps, is this too optimistic?

Thanks in advance.

Dave

my 6.5 x 47...25 inch barrel with 130 vld's is 12 moa to 600 yd from a 100 yd zero.

not sure of the speed. but you may be able to figure it out.

I would think that it is very doable and may end being in the range of your upper node velocity. Obviously there are a few other factors like barrel and chamber dimensions ,but I dont think it will be too much to ask for(at least IME).

rocketron, assuming that your sight height is around 2" that calculates to roughly 2875fps. i could handle that!!!

scott, reamer is from pt&g and is ground for 130 berger vlds.

thanks fellas

What were the atmospherics when he shot that? Calcs like this is the basis for a lot of the really bad over estimated MV numbers on the web. If he as actually at 0.0ASL then yes, he's got 2875, but if his DA was 4000 feet then that MV is something closer to 2800. I've seen the DA on the 1000 yard line in Oak Ridge (900ASL) range from -90 to +4000 depending on atmospherics. I've had to dial off a full MOA between the first relay in the AM and the last one at 3PM when the temp goes from mid 70s to upper 90s. At Raton my 308 F-TR load shot 3MOA less to 1000 yards than it does in TN due to altitude.

Realistically his 600 yd come up probably tells you can get in the vicinity of 2800FPS.

Temp and altitude have a great deal to do with calculating velocities, I have found that using Quickload it grossly overestimates certain calibres even when you put in the correct temps and barrel lenght, with my 260 and 6.5x47 velocities are normally 100 fps overestimated, in fact the only cal it seems to get nearly right is the 308, there is no substituite for a good Chronograph.

I have the 6.5x47L with a 26" barrel. I shoot 130g VLD target bullets over 37.5 g. of RL-15 with BR-4 primers. Last time I checked the MV it was 2866.

DCRYDER, built a 6.5X47 Lapua for deer and antelope hunting. 24" Kreiger barrel on a trued rem 700 action with a Kiff bolt. I'm shooting a load of 38.7Gr's of N-540 for a M.V. of 2889fps. Tried several other powders but N-540 gives me the least vertical. Oh yeah I had better mention that I'm shooting coated bullets, so if you decide to try this load, back off about 10% and work back up slowly. Especially if you plan on shooting naked bullets. Still has over 1000 lb's. of energy at 650 yds. Shooting 130 Berger VLD Hunting bullets. Hope this helps some. Good Luck.

I had a Cooper in 6.5-47 Lapua. I shot 40.2 of H4350 Fed 205M and 130 Berger hunting VLD 15 thou off. I was shooting at an elevation of 3500 and a temp of 60'. I was getting a MV of 2820 with a 24' barrel

Oh I think you will be able to get there no problem!

I am at roughly 2925 and its actually a light load. With a 25.5 inch barrel.

This is exactly what I wanted to hear fellas!!! Thanks for the info.

I may start with a 26" barrel, can always go shorter.
