6.5-300WSM

I need some help new to this stuff, i would like to build the above on a savage action, which one will a short action like a 308 work or do i go with long. Whats a good OAL on barrel and the cartridge a good load what powders. The gun will be used for deer hunting and my be ?, i'll be using 130gr. nosler accubond and 140gr. partions. Thanks Rich K.

Get any M11 Short Mag, 270WSM, 7mm WSM, or 300 WSM with the round rear ring and the large barrel shank. I have a 6.5 WSM PacNor 25" SSSM that shoots great. I guarantee that it will impress the heck out of you.

Sounds like a heck of a deer killer. My 6.5WSM is a comp gun
with a 30inch barrel, but I've often thought it would make a heck of a long range coyote/deer cartridge. This round is very consistent with the 142SMK and N-170.Good luck with your project
I can't understand why we have'nt seen any 6.5WSM or SAUM
variations based on a shorter version of these cases built with the 6.5 bore in mind.Barrel life is probably the reason, perhaps
metric numbers scare people, look how long it took people to embrace the 6PPC.:)I guess we will never know what the gun companys think that we think we want.

I own one 6.5-7 SAUM, a comp gun, and my second, a hunting gun, will be back from the smith shortly. I think the round is great for hunting, but is a terrible comp gun. The 139 scenars at 3,150 to 3,200 fps is asking too much, in my opinion. The comp gun fouls quickly at around 10 arounds and the accuracy really drops off after that. I don't see the barrel making it to 1,000 rounds.

I'm putting together a savage model 11 large shank chambered in 6.5-.270 wsm. I had the reamer throated for the scirroco II 130 gr. bullet. Anyone have any load suggestions?

The 6.5 WSM will make a great deer gun! You should be able to shoot from near to far with it if you practice a little. You will love it!!!

Quickload shows that loaded to the same pressure, same barrel length, the 6.5 WSM gets about 35 FPS more velocity on average across the 120 to 142 gr bullets than does the 6.5-284 Norma. The trade off is lower quality brass, no factory loaded ammo, more expensive dies, more work, less barrel life. Would not be worth it to me for 35 FPS, YMMV.

I think you are just as well off with a 6.5-06 imp. You can push the 130s to 3200 with a reasonable barrel length. I doubt barrel life will be all that great. I would use one for hunting, but not competition. Who wants to work up a load only to shoot out your barrel in one season?

I built a 6.5-270 WSM P.O.S.
A 6.5X284 will do everything that a 6.5 WSM will do with much less powder, great brass and no hassles.
