Can anyone give any input on this setup. Good, bad, ugly, dumb idea etc. Any input is appreciated. Want to go 1.25 straight barrel dia. and perhaps a Vias brake

Farmer,

interesting read but it think this is the worst bbl life I have seen yet. 3600 fps with a 140 vld is pretty impressive though.
good luck and hope this helps some.
cheers,
doc

Thanks for the feedback navyrad8r. I started reading what I thought was an interesting post that you send on Long range hunting untill all of the know it all's put there two cents in and spoil the reading. O well maybe I am just getting to old and cranky LOL>

Why not try a 6.5-06 Ack Imp? it will get you 3200 (30 in barrel) and only use 50 Gr. of powder and the barrel will last at least 1200 rounds. :)

I have one. It's a Bartlein 28" barrel and my load is 70grs of Retumbo in RWS cases with 140 Amax's for 3225fps (It's a hot load but the RWS cases take it and keep the primer pockets tight). With R-33 it goes to 3290fps. I have some Nosler cases coming as most people say I'm losing up to 100fps using RWS cases due to their thickness. Mine has about 150 rounds through it now. I know barrel life will be short but I only use it for hunting. I shot a deer last year with it at 1006yds and a cow elk with it this year at about 125yds. I'll probably build a longer barreled version (32") to see what I can get for velocity with the Nosler brass. I'd suspect 3400fps with 140's is doable using Retumbo and maybe 3500fps with R-33.

The pressures he was running at to get 3600fps were way high and he later learned that.

Something about this wildcat on this frog site:
http://wildcats.xooit.com/t63-Le-6-5-300-Win-Mag.htm

They don't seem to obtain more than 3340fps with 140 grainers...
