6.5-284 to 6mm-284

Well, my action is at the gunsmith for a 6mm-284 barrel. I went with Redding Type S sizing die and a Wilson seater. Little thought did I give to...What do I need to resize from 6.5 to 6mm. Could it be possible to use the Type S die without a bushing for the first step, (if that would do anything without the bushing). Help! What do I need to do? I am completely lost.

I just neck it on down maybe run it thru the 6-284 body die then on down to the correct size you want.

James is correct, however, I would just use a "regular" F/L die. Here is a little trick to help get it going in the die. Put a "decent" outside chamfer on the case mouth. Do not overdo it, just knock that edge off. This will GREATLY help entry of the case into the smaller neck part of the die. Once you use the "regular" die, then after fireforming use your Type S die. I have heard of using a bushing die for necking down with success. However, I have tried it and you can crush the neck down because it may not center in the bushing that is floating, that is why I would use a "regular" F/L die.

Another tip too, if you use a FL die, leave the expander ball in elsewise your necks will bell at the mouth.

Thanks guys. I almost kicked myself in the a** for not thinking this part out. So, I believe a FL die it shall be.
