6.5-284 overall length

Guys i need some help????? Working on a little project gun and after chambering the barrel i placed a 142 grain bullet in my Lapua brass and kept seating it until my bolt would close...I checked the overall length of the bullet and it checks 3.024 from the case head to the bullet tip. This puts the boattail part of the bullet down in the case below the bottom of the neck. should I have it throated deeper so the bullet will be out more like a OAL of 3.224???HELP please

I can't give you OAL figures, but yes it should be throated such that your projectiles of choice are seated with the boattail junction above the neck shoulder junction of the case. I believe this is done mostly to avoid the "donut" problem. My Kiff reamer is designed for seating them into approx 3/4 of neck length, when touching the lands), and it was throated for the SMK 142.
