6.5-284 Norma vs. 6.5-284 Win

Hello- Are these two the same cartridge? My research would indicate so. So why the different names? Norma brass is thicker? American vs. European? Or just another "name and developer" thing in gun related stuff. Thanks for the input.

My experience on this case is that the Winchester version is of a slightly smaller base dimension as compared to Norma drawings , something to the effect of .003" difference but don't quote me on that.

Perhaps this was done as a way to alleviate anyone from trying to put 6.5 rounds into a straight .284 chamber as they share the same datum line I believe.

Basicly the 6.5-284 Win. is the Wildcat version, The 6.5-284 Norma is the SAMMI version with minor differences between the two and they "MAY" or "MAY NOT" interchange depending on which version of the 6.5-284 Win. you have.

Thanks for the replies. That makes sense. I just didn't know which was which. Knowing the Norma version is SAMI helps. Friend thinks he is going to order a Cooper.
