6.5-284, long or short?

Would a 6.5-284 repeater gun be best suited on a long or short action. I am thinking of gathering parts for a build, 700 action is what I have in mind. Any and all input would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Matt Horn

Matt , when i build a 6.5 x284 it goes on a long action for the simple fact you can get the bullets seated where they should be out of the body of the case . short actions you just have to seat them to deep . Make sure you ask your gunsmith if his reamer will cut a long throat . The Rifler

If you use a Wyatt' box conversion, you can get away with a short action for MOST bullets. If you want to use the long VLD bullets, you have to seat them past their bearing surfaces to fit the magazine. I use a long action and a reamer accordingly. I only intend on using long bullets. The smallest bullet I use is the 108 Lapuas and everything else is 123-140 VLDs.

To get the performance that a 6.5 X 284 is capable of in a repeater, you'll want a long action. With a short action you can get by with the lighter bullets, but the 130 gr and heavier bullets will have you seating them down into the case to fit a magazine and limiting the powder charge.
