6.5 284 load fine tuning?

in the process of tuning my 6.5 284. i started with h4831 sc and 130 vlds 50.0 to 52 grs seated jam +.010 also tryed 49 to 51 grs h 4350 same seating depth. used fed 210s with the h4831sc. nothing acceptable to me with these loads. showing inch inch groups at 200 yds. 2nd time out i loaded h4831sc fed 210m and 142 smk at jam length .291 bushing type s fl die /no shoulder bump and 3/4 neck sized.293 loaded neck fed 210m primers. found the best load to be at 51 grs. shot 3 in one hole and one out,but small enough to cover with a nickel. my question is without burning the barrel up looking for a holy load what is my best option tuning wise? was thinking for keeping everthing the same except going up or down .2 in powder from 51.0. or back off .3 in powder and try coming back off the lands. i really dont want to burn the throat out of it looking for a load. brass is lapua and this is on a 30in kreigar/trued 700 in a shehane stock. also are the 142smk to much bullet to launch at p-dogs giving the heavy weight? am i better to try the 120gr to gain some trajectory? any opinion is welcome.

:)My Savage LRH, has 1200 rounds threw it and still shots three or 4 shots touching each other on a good day all 5 will touch. I like the 142 SMK with 54.0 grs. of Rl25, also the 140 Bergers with 56.0 grs. of Retumbo. Both loads are about the same speed,Mv.2,850. I use Federal 210 primers most. H4831sc I use a charge of 51.5 to 52.0 this load is also very accurate. I use Nosler Brass ,Several have been shot over 12 times and everything is right on.

Are you talking about a 6.5-284 or a 260 Remington?? I didn't know Nosler made brass for 6.5-284.

I am surprised that you have that good of luck with such light loads with R25. I would expect to use 60+ grains. Never had tried it myself though. Never used anything slower than 4831

I was talking about the 6.5x284 Norma {WIN.} I have shot 56.0 grains with the 140 Berger VLD,s the accuracy is very good. My case life determines my loads. Alliant RL25 and Hodgdon Retumbo is what I have found works best in my Savage LRH. Nosler loads ammo for the 6.5x284 Norma and makes very good brass for it also,it comes fully prepared to shoot, just load and fire.

Good shooting.

51.5 g 4831 sc 140g amax's fed 210 primers at 2890 fps an awesome load in my 6.5-284
