6.5-284 and light bullets

Hello, I was curious if anyone here has played with the 6.5-284 and some of the lighter bullets. Like the 120gr ballistic tip and the 123 laupa sencars. The barrel is a 1-10 twist so it should stablize the light bullets ok, but was wondering what others experiance has been.

I have had SUPER Small groups with Sierra 107's and 123 Lapua's in my Shilen barreled 6.5-284 with 1/8 twist I also got 1/2 moa with Speer 90 TNT bullets. I wanted 300 yd or less loads and here is what I came up with.

Sierra 107- Either 38.0/ Varget or 43/H4350. 2800 fps in 31" bbl. Fed 210
Sub-5 shot .250 groups...Consistently! They keep producing 1 ragged hole groups. Totally unexpected.

Lapua 123- 40-42/H4350 2650-2700 fps Fed 210 Consistent 5 shot groups .300-.400

Speer 90 TNT-40-44/Varget or H4895- unsure of velocity fed 210
1/2" Groups. probably could have been better, but I had already put 50 plus rounds down the bbl and it needed cleaning.

Recoil is very minimal and bbl was only warm, not like 142 long-range loads.

Good Luck!

38 gr of varget in the 6.5-284. Is that kind of light? Sierra shows 38.9 gr of varget at 2800 fps?

Am I missing something??

I would like to try the 107's as well

Joe
