6.5-280 RCBS 30 Degree

I was wondering if anyone out there is/use to shoot this round. I have an action and barrel ready to go and was researching cartridges and ran across this one and it is bascially exactly what I want. I was originally thinking a 6.5-06 30 degree... but this is basically the same. I don't want a 40 degree AI ether.

I know about the 6.5-284, the 6.5-06 and all the other 6.5's, so I don't need info on them.

I was also wondering If anyone knows if you can get say a 280 AI Redding S bushing die and put in a .264 (.2XX, whatever it need be) sized collet for neck sizing? I have not used any of the collet dies so I'm not quite up to par on them. I have a vickerman seater so I'm not worried there.

Any info would be great.

I dont see why it couldnt be done.I think lee will build anything you want with in reason.I would give them a call and see what can be done to build a 6.5x280 collet die.I think it would be easy. The redding die would be simple and I think you answered your own question.I would call redding to make sure we are not missing anything here.

Got it chambered and formed this one case. From left to right; .270 Win, 6.5-06, 6.5-280 RCBS.

I ended up using a .264 WM die to neck it down becuase it indexes the new neck perfectly in my rifle for forming 280 brass into the new 6.5-280 when the shell holder touches the bottom of the die.

Have not used a body die of any sort yet, but will most likely have Lee make me a neck/seater set.

The .264 WM die is a good idea. You could also have used a 6.5 Creedmoor die from Pacific with his 30 degree shoulder or a 6.5 neck sizing die from the same brand along with a seater for 6.5 mm cartridges. The nice feature of Pacific seaters is that they are designed for calibers not for specific cartridges. Re the body die, what works for me is a RCBS trim die for the .45ACP (don't forget the Redding sizing wax)

I thought about the 6.5 creedmoor, but it has quite a bit shorter neck and I did not think a standard factory die would allow for sizing of the longer neck on the 280 case. I'll check into those Pacific die though.

thanks
