6.5-270WSM

Hello folks,
I am in a process of getting a custom built rifle in caliber 6.5-270WSM, with 26" 8 twist barrel.
I am looking for more information on different kind of loads for 130 - 140VLD Berger bullets. I am looking to use it for shooting 500-800 yrds.

I just completed build of the same 6.5-270WSM, using a 1:8 twist 27inch BBL, Holland stock and muzzle brake, and Rem700 Action.

I have only fired 50 rounds to date using Alberta Wildcat 142gn ULD bullets. I am looking to get hold of some Lapua, Berger, and SMK's.

So far I am pleased, with the brake, the recoil is trivial, and best groups at 100 and 300 yards are .4MOA.

I will let you know how it goes as I get out the the range some more and try out different bullets.

The dies for this are simple. Since it is based on a 270 WSM case, I use a forster bushing bumpdie for the 270wsm, and then use the bushing set for a 6.5mm. The bushing that I am useing is the .294 bushing I am shooting 139 gn Lapua bullets and use H1000.

I also use the Redding body die for the 270wsm for when I have to push the shoulder die back more than the Forster bump die will allow.

For seating I use 270WSM ultramicrometer seating die, I had a special sliding die chamber made up with my reamer, but you can get by with the one that comes with the die.

For a less sophisticated die set you can also get the Lee set, they make one for 6.5-300WSM, which is essentially identical to the one for 6.5-270WSM.

Thanks

Mark
