6.5-270 with 140 bergers?
Your 6.5/270 is a very popular round in Europe, it's called the 6.5 Brenke. The main difference between it and the 6.5/06 is the length of the neck. Use 6.5/06 load data. H-4831sc is an excellent powder for this cartridge provided you have a long barrel to burn it all. 140 Berger VLD's are excellent long range projectiles. I use both these components when reloading my 6.5/06 for long range competition.

One of the most accurate hunting rifles I have owned is a 6.5/06 in a 26 inch 9 twist McGowen barrel on a M70 action with a synthetic stock. Got 3035 fps with IMR 4831 and a Sierra 140 spbt. Regularly shot sub-moa at 200 and 300 yards. Necked down .270 brass so wouldn`t get too much thickening in the neck and trimmed it to .30-06 length.
The one moose I shot with that load in Northern Ontario went down like it was electrocuted. Liked that rifle so much that I shot it too much off a bench and eventually the groups opened up but still minute-of-moose. Realistically you cannot expect long barrel life with that cartridge which is why rounds like the 6.5 Creedmore are available. But if you don`t mind rebarreling more frequently, it is nice to have the horsepower of the 6.5/06 for long range target competition.

Well I just wanted to give an update if anyone was interested! I have finally put down the 223 rifles bought my own chrony and started to work on my loads for my 6.5-270. I have started working with RL 22 and the 140 bergers with some great success. I got out to the range the other day and found a load that was pushing the 140 berger at 3090 fps with no pressure signs and only a 6fps difference in the string and put the group .3 at 100 yards. To make sure I did not just get lucky I have loaded 20 more and aim to go to the range some time this week to verify at 200yards!
Hopefully this works out and I can pull up a drop chart and go test and perfect so I can be ready to compete f-class in the up coming months. I usually get my but kicked cause I am pretty new to this long range stuff and shooting off a harris bipod but thats ok cause every time i go I run into the nicest people around that are always willing to help and teach!

Hey Shaun,
Thanks for sharing your data. I want to rebarrel my M70 PF (1964) and Have a few questions: who did you get your reamer from and what freebore and lead angle did you go with in the design?
What length barrel are you running to get that velocity? I want to run a 22” barrel for packing in timber and am curious what I could get out of it with R26/140/Peterson brass.
Also, I’m assuming a .270 Redding bushing die would work but what about a seating die? And for sizing down the neck what bushings did you use to get it to proper neck diameter?
