6.5-256 Win Mag

I'm currently working on a wildcat based on the .357 Mag necked down to .264"
I will also use the .221 Fireball case as an alternative with a .223 bolt face, otherwise I intend to use a 7.62x39 or 6 PPC bolt head with the .357 case as they have the same rim diameter . The reamer will be a 6.5 TCU short chambered. The barrel should be a 22 incher with an 8" twist on a Savage action.
Has anyone ever tried such a wildcat?

the 22 rem jet was a necked down 357 and there have been "improved" versions blown out like Ackley.

the bullet dia can be your choice.

Howdy !

Along those lines, I've thought about a possible neck-down of 7X33 Sako, to 6.5mm.
It'd be a pretty straight-forward redux in neck diam of .020" .
The wildcat would feature pretty decent case capacity, compared to the notional wildcat you mention.

For use in an AR platform, the bolt face for a 9mm would be utilized for the 6.5mm/ 7X33 wildcat.

.357Mag,

Right on!

I'm very fond of the 7x33, never used one but I like the concept and I'm surprised nobody used it as an alternative to the .300 Whisper (a 175 or 180 VLD would be as efficient as any .308 in 220 grains and would have even less recoil).
Speaking of the Whisper case, it could also be used for my wildcat.
A few years ago I wildcatted in 6.5 the .44 Mag case and the best bullet weights were ranging from 107 to 130.
The 144 grainer from Lapua could also be used for the longest range in supersonic but the trajectory was really rainbow style.

Howdy, again !

FWIW -
.35 Rem brass has basically the same base diam as the .44Mag case. I have shortened and then trial case-formed .35Rem, to where it would fit in a .44Mag chamber ( "N"-frame ) as a sort of a " rimless " .357B & D.

Despite having smaller than .473" rim diam, the .35 cal wildcat brass snapped right into place..... when I tried fit checking them in
.45ACP " full moon " clips ( for "N" frame use ).

With a 28" barrel, a full load of W 748 and this hybrid vld bullet, an average velocity of 2630 fps was easily obtained.
