a 308 case necked down to 6.5 and maybe ackley it as well?

Just wondering since the 6.5 x 47 seems to be a very excellent round I was wondering if a few more grains behind it would be even better or would this get you into the barrel burner catagory like the 6.5 x 284.

Rem 260 ? The 6.5x 55 isnt considered a barrel burner and the .308 case is 51mm

Yep- it's called a .260,yeah,yeah I know a gunsmith will tell you that before it was standardized as the .260 Rem. the dimensions were blah,blah,blah.). And yes there is an Ackley version. It's a good cartridge/bullet combo for both target work and game up to deer and elk,at reasonable range). I've had or have both,and it's one of my favorites. YMMV.

260 remington, I wonder if changing the angle of the shoulder to that just like the 6.5 x 284 but yet keep the length where the sholder starts at 1.5598, should give you a longer neck.
in the diagrams it shows 40 degree total shoulder angle on the 308 or 260, but the 6.5 x 284 shows a 70 degree.
Basically make a short 6.5 x 284 with a long neck.

Anyway just wondering what it would do, any thoughts?
Anyone tried it?

Ah ha I think I found what I was looking for and it's basically the 6.5 creedmore, I'll have to double check the specs.

Wow, I can remember my grandpa having a 6.5 Panther when I was a kid. It was my first exposure to a wildcat. I think it may have started this mental disorder that I have where only uncommon guns are interesting.

The 6.5 creedmoor has less capacity and is shorter than the 260 rem, but a tiny bit more capacity than the 6.5 x 47. Kinda like a 6.5 x 49 if there was such a thing.

there are a few versions, the one I use,6.5-08 AI) has minimum case taper in the body and 40 degree sholder, the 260 AI has a little more case taper so be careful the dies and chamber match up by the numbers not just the name.
