Hi Guys,
I am new to this forum looks like a great forum so far.I just built a 6.5-06 on a vz24 action 1:10 hart it shoots accubond 130s great but I would like to shoot 130 or 140 vld bergers does anybody have any info on this?

I also have a 6.5-06 I finally went to a 1 in 8.5 krieger to get it to shoot 140 or 142 grain bullets. It likes 53.5 grains of H-1000 or 53 grains H-4831 short cut

confuzed,
I actually ordered a 1:9 twist but unfortunatly it showed up a 1:10 I wasn't going to wait another three months so I may have to shoot lighter bullets than I wanted. What kind of accuracy are you getting out of yours?

Reloader 22 and dont look back extremely accurate and great velocity if you dont mind going a little rough on the barrel!

Shaun,
What is your load of chioce using rl-22? and what barrel burning velocities are you getting?

I shoot two 6.5-06's that I built. Both of my rifles don't shoot the sierra 140's as good as 120's. I shot the first rifle in the national mach course out to 600yds and did get the silver agg. medal at the state match using 120 nosler bullets. Re to RL-22 I found the data I use in the Nosler loading book and did my own adjustments. I have worked a very good load for the 120 Nos BT for hunting. I have killed 3 antelope with this load and it works!. I have used a 25-06 also and in the kills I have made the 6.5 does the job faster and cleaner. I think a TW of 8.5 may do better for the heavy bullets. I just got a box of the BERGER 130's and want to work with them. I have used the 129 H's in the past with good accuracy but velocity is 2950 to 3000. The question I have is wind drift between the two weights. I need to go and shoot at our range out at 500 and 600, I'm only using my rifles for fun and hunting at this point. My barrels are a light var. and std hunting wt.

Wapiti25,
I tried 130 vlds yesterday w/50.5gr of h-4350 I have shotguns that hold a tighter pattern.I did try 120 sierra 49.5 h-4350 shot pretty good will try Rl-22 with 120s tomorrow1 Thanks
Wayne.

Mine is actually a 6.5-270 (different neckand shoulder) but my load is 56.4 grns RL22 with 140 berger touching the lands lightly I am getting just over 3100 fps with no preasure signs. This round is extremely accurate out of my 27 inch broughton 5c barrel, way more accurate than myself as I am a rookie to f-class and competitive shooting but all I know is you cant have any more fun with your pants on!

I should have let you know both barrels are 1 in 9 tw. I could not get my guns to shoot the Sierra 140's as good as the 120's. One of the guns shoot's 120 NBT's good with H4831 the other just has not been worked with that combo. When I was shooting the 600yd matches the old Nosler solid base 120's was my best bullets. I would like to make some brass out of Lapua and see if there is any advanage there. The 6.5-270 gives more neck support than the 06 case the shoulder is the same. I have made brass out of both but in the 06 chamber you have to trim the neck to the 06 length. I will on my next barrel use the full length 270 neck unless the Lapua or other brass gives some advantage. I use 30-06 brass for my long range loads with turned and annealed necks. I recomend annealing after about every 3rd firing. I just bought a Redding comp neck die for a 30-06 and will use a bushing for the 6.5 neck. I am going to try to use this new die for 30-06, 270, 6.5, and 25-06 cases by making the bushings for each gun, brass neck. I'm trying to cut the run-out down. 6.5's are fun!
