6.5-06 best powder for 140 berger vld hunting bullets and seating depth?

Just looking for a little advise on my new caliber 6.5-06 1-8 shilen 24" savage 111 action

i have tried several bullets with it 129 hornady sp and interbond, barnes 127 lrx and the 140 accubond. the accubond is the most accurate to this point but not where i want it.

so i am going to try the 140 berger. does anyone have a powder and charge recommendation? seating depth to start at? i have read they like in the lands but this is going to be a hunting gun so i really don't want to run into the lands. is .010 off a good place to start?

i want to get to the most accurate load with good speed. it sounds like my average shot will be 250-350 yards on the hunt.

I have h4831sc,h4350,rl19,rl22, h1000, imr 7828ssc, hybrid 100v

any help would be appreciated.

Biggdawg, we have been building and shooting various 6.5's for a good number of years. In the cases with larger volume than a 6.5x47, such as 6.5-284, 6.5-06, 6.5-55 nothing has produced better long range accuracy then H-4350. Our very favorite long range bullet is the Berger 130 vld seated into the rifling .008
to .012. Be sure to have a minimum of .002 neck tension to avoid pulling the bullet. We start at 45 grains in the 6.5-06 and work up in tenth grains at a time. Just my two cents. dedeadeye.

Thank you for the info I do have h4350 and that is what is pushing the accubonds the best.

i am trying to stay at .003 or so neck tension so i should be ok, I will try some in the lands and .010 off and see what happens.

thanks again.

The only boolits that I have shot from my 6.5/06 is Hornady SST in 129gr and 140 gr. V100 worked for me as did H4831 and N165. Right now I am loaded up with V100 and my best accuracy with the 140gr came at just over 2800fps. Not a screamer, but this rifle shoots the load like it has eyes. You can start at 47/V100 and a WLR...that will definitely be safe. Powder charge weights are a bit difficult because the 6.5/06 chambers can vary so much. That is LOW on the Hodgdon chart however and 1.5gr below my accy load as tested in the full sun at 90F.
