6-284 From 6MM

I have a Remington 700 BDL that was converted to 6-284 from a 6MM. It isa tack driver. It had no bottom metal. A friend gave me all the necessary parts from a 243. I didn't realize it but with the 243 box and follower 6-284 bullets won't go into the magazine they are to long. How can this be remedied? Thanks from a 72 year old real novist. Lou

You have 3 options. 1. Single load (no mag use), 2. Deep seat your bullets (to fit the mag length) , 3. modify the mag well to use Wyatt or Badger Ordinance magazines ( they both allow a longer cart AOL) approximatley 3.0-3.1" vs. 2.82" for a stock Rem SA mag well.

There is another option. You can expand the mag port on the action to allow for a longer COAL. You might have to custom fit the box and maybe some alterations to the follower but it can work without going to a extended mag system.

The seekins detachable mag system does allow for almost a 3" COAL and is one of the best i have used.
