5mm varmint guns.........

Any of u guys play around with the 20 cal. stuff??? I'm thinking about the tac 20 on a switch barrel savage 223 ...or just getting a 20 br..Any thoughts on the rate of twist for these choices...I like the 300 plus yard shots...or is my 6mmbr the best choice..I think I'm just looking to build something & need an excuse to spend $$$...My buddy wants the 6.5 X 284.. So I'll be working on that this winter...any thoughts for those projects??? mike in ct

Check out 6mmBR.com's 20 cal page and 6.5 page. They have great info on all the popular .20's. I would look at the 20BR with a 1-9 twist. This will stabilize the 50 gr. Berger VLD and give you all the range you want.

Good luck,

I was reading about that 50 gr 5mm bullet..The trajectories were fantastic...& the 20 Br is a hot little number..Worth looking into..mike in ct

Withing 3-4 month 20PPC and 20 Vartarg Lapua-made brass should be available from Dakota Arms. These should be very accurate options. The nice thing about the 20 BR is it uses a .308-sized bolt-face, making for a simple switch-barrel with a 6BR or .243.

Personally, the Twenty that interests me the most is the .20 Vartarg based on the Fireball case. While not as fast as it's bigger brothers, it will hit 3700 fps, and you have less noise, less recoil, and, perhaps most importantly), less barrel heat. All these things are important for day-long varminting sessions. I think a Vartarg on one of Sako's or Cooper's small actions would be a winner.
