55 grain Berger 20 Cal. load info

Have a 8 twist barrel for 20BR on the way. Have the bullets, 55 grain Berger's) and am looking for load suggestions and starting points.

I am using N150,28gr-30gr) in my early load developement work under 50s, NOT 55. We are still waiting in the UK for the 55s. I am getting cratering start at 31.5gr. Quickload suggests that N150 is ideal pressure wise for the 50s but their figures can be conservative.

There is a bit of info on 55s on Saubier but I cannot find the thread that showed it. There is a bit on dasher on the link and there is some stuff on the 6BR link as well.

I suspect that Todd Kindler may also be worth a call, you might guess that he has some months ago!.

I had called Tod and he did not have any info as of yet. 6MM BR web site gave me one hit. And he had used IMR4007ssC, but no amounts with velocity of 3600 or so.

Thanks for the links Alycidon. The post at Saubiers is mine and
so far what I've found for the 20BR and 6BR is that they love
N-540 very much while the Dasher can stand going with a little
slower powder with heavy for caliber bullets.Dawe11 while I think an 8 twist is a bit much for the 55grn Berger it surely will work for you.In the future I'm sure we will see the major bullet companys offer more 20 cal heavies with poly tips for
long range varminting. When the 50grn Blitz Kings,V-Max's, and
Nosler BT's start showing up I'm sure you will be glad with your choice. If you check the link to Saubiers you will see that
in my post I had bullets stabilized in a 9 twist rifle going as slow as 2979fps,I think you are on the safe side with an 8 but
in the future it may be needed, lets hope). In my testing Big Game worked very well in the Dasher and may work well in the 20BR too.In the future I'd like to try Rel-15 and Varget.Good luck with your project.

I tried Varget in my old 20BR with a 12 twist. 29.0 seemed to be max and 29.5 and 30 way too much as I got ejector shine with these both. Also the 55 grain did-not hit the target with the 12 twist.

Greg made my 20 BR and my 6mm BR.So I know how well your gun is made up.
Michelle, sent me my 55 grains also. Several PD shooter buddies in my area are interested in 20 caliber PD cartridges. We have looked at 6-6.5 Lapua shortened and any info with chamber data on your 20 Dasher would be of considerable interest. Our group are shooting the 20 Vartarg, 204 Ruger, 20 TAC, 20 PPC and 20 BR.

Glad to hear Greg built your rifles also.Needless to say I hold his work in high regard. What state is your group from? What are the distances that you shoot p.d.'s at?It seems like you have it pretty well covered out to 600+yds.I can't wait to try the
new Berger on pd's although I really hope for poly tipped bullets in the 50 weight area to make the most out of the 20 cal pd rifle on varmints.I think the best thing about the 20Dasher is the ability to use Lapua 6mmBR brass, neck turn and shoot p.d.s while forming a case that in essence duplicates velocites a .22-250 with 55's would do with a higher b.c. bullet.Greg has the 20Dasher reamer by the way, hint hint hint.:)

Matt,

Their are several of us located in central Washington near the Columbia River. Most are Hunter Benchers and the rest PD shooters.Like you said we shoot out to 500 yds plus. Spent several hours with Greg at his old shop near Greeley last January and assume he is now located near Rifle, CO.
